I have been going through arms like crazy I'll be on my third one with in the last 6 months what are my options aside from the longed after sas which I can't afford now. I heard about a brace from Downey but haven't seen any info on it. I looked on their site but nothing. I really can't afford 70-80 bucks every other month to replace it.

why did you chose the 44 as apposed to the toy 8" for your swap? is it cut down or is it full size?

the brace is to prevent bending i think. if you are bending them i would suspect you have your torsion bars adjusted too far or are getting too much travel. the bushings are only a couple dollars as long as it isnt bent.
if you can work out some metal fab stuff an sas isnt that expensive. its the welder and what not that costs money.

I decided to go with the dana 44 for one i started gettin parts for it before longfields came out and i had money into a 44. second i feel that the toy axle is too narrow. so i wanted wider. my dana 44 has been cut down 4 inches on the driver side so it puts my spring perches at 27.5 inches on center, and also allows for me to use a 1980s jeep waggoneer inner axle on the narrowed side. oh yeah the over all width of the axle is 63.5 inches. i feel it is the perfect width it is wider than a toyota IFS axle and narrower than a full width axle.

I have the Downey brace. I was doing the same thing you are doing. I put on the brace and no more problems since. I think I paid around $40-50.

No, it basically slides over the idler arm to stop it from moving.
