I had just changed out the Auto hubs on my stepbrothers 4runner, and when I put the transfer in 4hi, or 4lo there is no reduction, and no 4x4. It seems to me like the shift lever is broken inside the transfer, although it doesn'nt feel abnormal when shifting. I have never had a problem with a gear driven transfer and was wondering if anyone else might know what the prob is. I will be tearing it apart this weekend so any help that would same me time would be greatly appreciated.
Also- he has been driving it with the auto hubs locked in for about 6months. Sure this has somthing to contribute.
Its a 87'runner, 4cyl EFI. It's white
:D
Thanks,
Scott J.

Yes at some point within the last 2 months, I guess it was stuck in 4hi. once they got it out they brought it to me and that was the last time it was driven until now. I haven't delt with the truck at all until it came limping to my doorstep.

thats the way it looks to me too. sounds unusual, toy geardrive cases are near bullet proof. i am rebuilding my trans and my friend who is anal about perfection (and a 20 year toy tech) just said to me the other day that i shouldnt worry about new bearings in my tcase b/c they never need anything!

If the 86 is from a 22RE it's probably the same as the 83 top-shift t-case.
If the 86 is from a 22R it's a forward-shift t-case.
If the 86 is from a 22RTE it's a top-shift 23 spline input t-case
