my 1990 truck is stock and when i turn sharply like in parking lots at slow speeds it makes a loud "chank" and will continue utill i straighten out some. I test drove about 4 trucks before this one ranging from 1989-1992 and all of them did this while trying to make tight slow turns. Whats the problem and is it common on these trucks?

Chank???? if its a creaking noise your caps(plastic) on the lock to lock stops, looks like a bolt sticken on the front and rear of the lower part of the hub carrier are probably worn out a real cheap fix under ten bucks I'd say

ya, It might be your steering stops. Just lube them up, thats all I had to do.

yeah, a little more description on the noise. You might just need some wheel spacers...

Bro the spacers are not the answer that came from left field:rolleyes: creaking you got then the caps you need and lubing them is a temp fix to a fairly simple problem and yes it is a common problem;)

my truck has been makin that sound for about a year, one of the mechanics at the toyota dealership here said his truck does it (i've heard it so he's not lying) and he said his has been doing this for a couple of years, and it's not that big of deal unless u just plain hate the noise.

the plastic caps from the dealer are cheap and then grease them. (i think toyota considers that part of lubing the chassis, maybe not on the visor card but somewhere?) but ALOT of people just live w/ the noise, but it does make yotas look bad in parking lots so get the caps!:D
