mine was doing something similar a few months back and it ended up being poor pin fit in the connector going from nuetral saftey switch to starter. that is an uncommon problem on toyota's but the circuit to the starter is very simple so there isn't alot it can be. i was using a jumper wire from b+ to the small connector on the starter to start the truck so i knew my starter was fine. i did swap an ignition switch and no change so only thing left was nuetral saftey and i unplugged the connector, plugged it back in and problem gone. it is above the starter w/ a good size black wire in it and two other small wires.

it happened to my 86 too before i sold it. Check all your wires, mine happened becuase the fuse box to battery wire got cut. Also please tell me you have checked your battery power?

yeah always double check your battery and connections. a not 100% tight battery terminal can cause intermittent no start.

Oh yeah I did check all power wires and I even pulled the tranny cover and unplugged and plugged the wire connector back in and it still did not work so I waited about 2hrs and went out and it started so it prob is the nuetral saftey

Thank you for the info without it a I may have LOADED THE 12ga
