I just did one for my 88 runner with a 3y no header and used a stainless after market 2"pipe/muffler from another car and she sounds pretty damn good so I`m sure the 2.5" for a 22r should work real well and sound pretty tough :D
I`ll post some pix as soon as I can resize them

Drew Yeah that is the one I think I am going to get I was looking at it the other day and all I have to do is buy the header because I have the whole cat back set up on one of my Broncos and it is very nice and only a few months old with a nice glasspack and I talked to the shop I got it at and he said it would be O.K. but I just wanted to ask you guys first since I don't know that much about the 22R-E's. But it sounds like it will work out good

Thanks guys

Behind a Normally Aspirated 22RE, Tim @ DOA recommends the Doug Thorley Tri-Y Headers that Russ posted up top about....and no more than a 2.25" exhaust behind it (and that's if you're bored over). I followed his advice and I can take a second with my 37's....small one, but I can still chirp them with a popcorn-popper.

O.K. So will the 2.5" tube slow down the flow too much or will it be just O.K. or good ?????/

And if it will slow it down too much would running 2" or 2.25" tube with the 2.5" cat & muff work out O.K.

if I don't have to buy all new stuff that would be good

Thanks guys

2.5" should be good to go the pix I posted were just to show ya it really doesn't take that much to build a pipe your self although I'm not running a header just thought maybe it'd help
by the way total price on my build was about $50.00 maybe even under
good luck

Just a suggestion, but you may be a little happier with the 2.25. The little engines require some backpressure which leads to a little more power. If it is too open, you have back pressure which is not good. If you had a cam, larger throttlebody, and maybe an ignition system, bored engine, I would say you could get by with the 2.5". Otherwise, stick with the 2.25".

Honcho, you are correct on that with the b/p point if your going straight from the head pipe flange out the back no curves but I`m pretty sure if you stick with the factory routing from the cat back you should retain the b/p needed to run the engine at optimum preformance.....
keep in mind the pix I posted are of the Jpn version which has a smaller motor 3y.
A friend ended up with a pipe I made about ayear ago that went from factory diameter to a 2.75 outlet and he`s real happy with that storey goes that it was a little loud for my old lady so I offed it to him for a new factory pipe and well 3mo`s ago me and her split which prompted the build up of current one.
ahh to be single again :D :D :D
