no battery is fine and it push starts fine....what i'm wondering is if the starter selinoid would maybe be located on the firewall on the pass side or behind the glove box...

well, i have no idea about the situation with your truck but...
9o% of no-start toyotas (w/ a good battery AND clean, tight connections at the battery and starter) are suffering from high resistance between the plunger and the L-shaped contacts in the starter.
i am in no way capable of describing these parts w/o a pic and w/o some more surfing skills i cant get one. but if all it does is make one small click every time you turn the key to the crank position then simply remove the starter and look at what would be its ass and remove the three screws holding the rear cover on. inside you will see a disc of copper that comes in contact with the L-shapes contacts. replace the contacts and it should go another 100,000 miles you can replace the plunger too but the contacts are under 10 bucks and the plunger is like 30. it will work w/ the contacts. it would not be surprising if after sitting awhile just enough corrosion formed to keep the small amount of contact left after ??miles from flowing enough current.

i of course offer the disclaimer that if i am wrong- who cares, at the dealer we would charge you 75 just to tell you that you need a new starter for probably 500 something parts and labor installed. if thats what it is:D if it does just click once when you turn the key to crank then its it.

thanks for all the help! i have pulled the starter and wired it directly and nothing so its either get another starter or try to repair it like you were saying which i have never done before. i will have to tear it down and see if i can tell what you are talking aobut...thanks a ton

its way harder to describe than it is to fix. once you take the three screws off you should be able to see what is going on. dont be scared, try it:D i replaced only the l shaped contacts on my 91 in 1999 and the starter is still good. i think i got the contacts at larry miller in slc but not the toyota part. the toyota part comes as a kit and is more expensive, it includes the nuts and rubber grommets. or check w/ any place that rebuilds starters. expect to pay like 2.00 each but bring your old ones b/c there are different shapes.
