i flexed my truck out with a fork lift, picked up every tire and came up with my shaft being 35.25" sitting there, 34.5" full compression. 37.5" at full extension. and then i picked up the front of the truck under the spring hanger and the shaft measured around 39" so i have around 4.5: of front travel. this is rears up front, chevies in the rear so nothing new, and using a whole 9012 up front. does this seem about right? i wouldn't mind using the stock shaft if i can get away with it, but 4.5" is pushing it i think.

how did you guys flex out your trucks to measure for a front shaft? this is a total newbie question but everyone seems to have long slips, and i have good flex and my shaft is not traveling 10+"

It will seperate when you're climbing a ledge and roll back and hit the brakes. The axle will roll back on the springs and pull the shaft apart. You need at least 8".

I would get a longer spline shaft. 4.5" of travel is pushing the limits of the stock splines and there is still one measurment that your forklift can not get, thats axlewrap. The axle will rotate down quite a bit under power and this is usually when I see shafts come apart. I would save the hassle of this on the trail and spend the money to get a longer spline shaft.
