Ok folks,
Here is my question. I just installed a 4.3 into a 84 Toyota, I've narrowed the front end 20" and I've pretty much decided to mount the radiator into the back of the truck. What would you folks suggest as using for the pipe work. Ive thought about PVC or exhaust pipe. I've even considered using 1.5" or 1.75" DOM (I can bend that my self). PVC would be the least expensive but more risky, and I'm not sure about the cost of the exhaust pipe from a shop.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Corey

well i would use toyotas work from the factory as a guide. no pvc. find out what is under an mr2. i know it is metal and coolant hose. maybe expensive but you should only have to do it once.

you mite look into hydrolic hose its expensive! but its flexable and steel braided. wont rust out .

Chris Giger used DOM for his.... Also look into Aluminized(sp?) exhast tube, it wont corrode as fast as reg. exhast tube... Wouldn't use the PVC tho. on crack and your done.... I've heard of guys using copper pipe, like gas line also....

I would use flexible copper pipe for its low weight and strenght. I wouldnt use soldered joints because vibration will cause the welds to crack. copper is more expensive but it will definetly take the heat. just make sure that the copper tubing is never in contact with metal because it will corrode. use anything to seperate the two, electric tape, rubber hose etc.

Just curious, if you didn't solder the joints, what would you suggest using? A compression fitting of some sort?
As far as the pipe, I figure it will be mounted to the chassis by means of some sort of bolt down clamp that is rubber lined, and there will be hoses at the fittings to the radiator and the waterpump/engine.
Corey
solder the joints for sure if you use copper...compression wont cut it under stress....i've seen copper and steel braiding used on the trophy trucks...seems to work well

I would go with steel braided if you have the $$ strong and it flexs

bend all the pipe and when you get to connect the copper pipe to the rad just use the existing rad hoses in between the two, with hose clamps. same thing to hook up to the engine. i would use the same diameter pipe as the rad hose to save problems. remember also to have the least bends in the plumbing. the pump might not be strong enough to circulate all the fluid. a 2 inch 90 degree elbow is equivalent to about 7- 10 feet of pipe...
