Im looking into a dual T-Case. Just seeing what people find works best in Utahs Terrain. I have Lockers front and rear, with 35s, and 5.29s, lots of clutch work is needed to go over most obstacles. Thinking about 2.28x4.70 or 2.28x2.28 anyone use either of these setups ? Got some feedback ? I could always go to 2.28 in the secondary box, and if i wanted lower gears just to add it in the primary transfer later on.
i know shit about that stuff man but ill tell ya my clutch stinks worse than urs im sure

I'm going to be running a slush box behind my 4.3 and before the stacked boxes. I just wish I could offer more information. Currently my pieces are on engine stands sitting in the garage, and the cab still has a friggin tarp over it. I'm looking to try and get the pieces in the chassis this weekend, but I'm still a way off before I can offer any REAL help. I think that running the stacked boxes is or should be enough.

Do some math you slacker....
Using 2.28 x 2.28 = essentially a 5.20 Low range in LL.
Using 2.28 x 4.70 = " " 10.72 Low range in LL.
So lets look at it this way....
Tranny x transfer x diff (I don't know the exact tranny ratio)
4.50 x 2.28 x 4.11 (What you had to begin with)
=42.17 Total Ratio
4.50 x 2.28 x 5.29 (After adding the Gears)
=54.28 Total Ratio - So you increased your low range by about 128%... not too bad
Add a stock crawler box...
4.50 x 2.28 x 2.28 x 5.29 = 123.75
So way more than DOUBLE (2.28) what you have now...
Add the 4.7 crawler box...
4.50 x 2.28 x 4.70 x 5.29 = 255.1
So almost Five times (4.7) what you have now...
Do you really need it to crawl 5 times slower than you do now? I woulsd honestly say that with 35's... a stock doubler would be fine...

I run the duals with a 4.7-1 and 488 gears, yes you do need to be that low....not all the time but when you need it, it's worth every penny!!!!! But if you only run average trails then you would be crazy to go with it. So what your going to be running is the question???? I have saved so much body damage from running the duals....that's why I like them:D :D :D thats my 2cents

Thanks for the mathimatical perspective and the money. :D The reason i wanted to know is becuase i was debating on throwing the 4.7s in the dual case( reduction box ) but if i put 4.7 gears in those then i would have to upgrade my output shaft to 23 spline ( or so Marlin recomends ) and was gonna do it all at once. However if i do just the stock 2.28 gears in the reduction box, then i can later add my 4.7s ( If i decide that i need them ) in my orignal transfer and keep the 21 spline shaft. I think thats what i will do.. try out the 2.28 gears and add the 4.7 later on if I find the need to.

I run a similar set up. 5.29 gears, 35"s etc.
I debated heavily whether I wanted 4 to 1's or 4.7 to 1's in the rear case. I decided 109 to 1 is a great crawl ratio. I have yet seen something where I said, "gee, I wish a was lower".
My main issue is, too low can be dangerous if you need to get out of something, and can't get going because you too low. Even climbing Dump bump etc, you don't use low low My 2..

With the 5:29's and 35's, you'll be plenty happy with just a merlin and x2 stock boxes... I run that and 37's and It's been great so far, the only time I wish I had it a bit lower was running Jackhammer, but I still made it fine...
The other benifet to running duals is that it put's your d-lines at the perfect angle... just running one box with gears and a tall lift has that front d-shaft angled funky(IMO). But that all depends on how tall you are...
So if you go duals, then figure cost for retubing the shafts, which I'm sure you have already done....

Like I said what are you building your rig to run????? The 4.7 is awesome, and there is 3rd and 4th gear when you do need to get a little more wheel speed. I have found that when I run trails like Montrose, and Penrose (old river beds with big rocks) 4+ trails that I use my 4.7 a bunch. When I run slick rock I use the higher gears.....slow control...... If you have an exo or don't care about you body then go with the duals no gears. But if you like your rig to look good then think about the 4.7. my 2:eek:

Building her to run everything from big rocks to dirt trails. Dont have an exo, and i do want to keep my bodywork straight ( now that i have straightened it ) I still have the 4.7 in mind.

Go 4.7 and Duals and you will be happy....plus the are cheap. When I got my gear set (#47) from Marlin it was $850.00 Big ones.....Wow that was way to much.....but it is worth it.
