I can give you my two cents for what its worth. I put a Thorley Tri-Y, Dynomax super turbo muffler, with 2 1/4" pipe on an 85 4 runner 22re and it made a big difference...definitely more punchy. Right now I have an 84 22r with a Downey 4into1, Dynomax super turbo, with 2 1/2" pipe.....and it doesnt run near as well as the 85 did. I dont know if its the carb, the pipe size or the header......but I wouldnt put it on another truck.
Just my past experience. Ive done lots of homework since and the next one Ill buy will be the LC engineering header, mated to 2" or 2 1/4" pipe.

I have ran a couple of diffrent headers on toys. Don't get headman they are junk. The pace setter header I had was a great.I had a Thorley on a 22r it was it is good header. As far as exhaust I would run 2" in and 2 1/4" out, with a Flowmaster 50 series. The combo has worked great for me so far. But this is just my .02 Good luck :D

It's the pipe size, Your not really supposed to run anymore than 2 1/4'' pipe in a 4cyl. You don't get enough back-pressure with the bigger pipe.

A Thorley is what I'm going use. I run a 2 1/2 in. exhaust with a free flow cat and a muffler. I think I will change that to 2 1/4 when I put my header on. Let me know what you go with and how it works.....Thanks.
