Yeah, go for it! Its a kick in the ass!

Heres a few things that I got! I just got done with mine. It is running ok, but I Dont think the cold start injector is working properly, and I don't have a heater yet, but who needs one here in oregon anyway!

Anyway my truck is a 81, with 85 EFI equipment now!

heres the stuff I got...

EFI Gas tank (yours wont work)
EFI Head (yours might work, what year is it?)
EFI Distributor
EFI Coil
Complete wiring harness WITH ECU
Complete EFI intake
Knock sensor
AFM and all the piping (airbox)
Circuit opening relay
Main EFI Relay
EFI Throttle cable
Fuel Line from the tank to the filter
FSM (factory service manual)
Injector resistor
Correct alternator

If you get the complete harness you should get the circuit opening relay and the main efi relay (in the kick panel) with it, along with the injector resistor (grey with fins on it, located in the engine compartment on the passenger side).

The heads in my opinion are pretty easy to tell if they will work or not. I would say if you can see extra threaded holes by the center of the intake manifold (where it mounts to the head) you can probably strap a efi setup to it. If not get yourself a lower EFI intake off a early celica.

My gas tank wouldn't go back in the stock position, so now its in the back of the bed.

I had to get a different distributer and coil. Thats pretty self explanitory!

I used a EFI throttle cable off of a early celica. I had to bore the holes out a little bigger on the throttle cable mount, where it mounts to the cab, but it is working great. It only cost me $5.00 at the local junkyard also!

The fuel line was kind fun! I am using a standard 3/8" fuel line with the stock toyota fittings for the tank and fuel filter. I just hose barbed the 3/8" to the stock fittings. The hose barbs are a tight fit on the stock fuel line, and anchor them down with hose clamps. I havent blown a line off yet. but it does swell a bit! :)

My alternator took a shit on me! Can we say 1-wire chevy?! I made an adjustable mount lengthened the tensioner, got a little longer belt, did a little grinding on the motor mount (not much), and walla, it damn near looks stock!

get yourself a factory service manual for your truck and the one the equipment is coming out of. Just a good Idea!

What The first thing I did was tear the carb crap on and put the efi crap on. second I tore every last wire out of the truck, except the tail lights and then put the new harness in and went from there. Some people say to splice but I did it the way I thought it would be easier.

Dont forget the harness that goes across the front of the truck also.

it wasn't a real bad experience. of course I dont know what year your truck is and what year of EFI crap your going to get! some of this may or may not apply to you.

I don't think I left much out. but if I did I am sure someone will let me know!

MY TRUCK IS A 84 4RUNNER THE HEAD IS NEW. I PUT IT ON 4000K AGO. HAD IT REBUILT(BAD MOVE ON MY PART, COULD HAVE HAVE GOT LC ENGINEERING HEAD FOR NOT MUCH MORE). BUT, ALL MY PARTS ARE FROM A 86 TRUCK I THINK I HAVE MOST OF THE STUFF I NEED. WHAT ABOUT THE GAUGE CLUSTER? WILL MINE WORK? THIS IS GOING TO BE A BLAST! THANKS
JAKE:D

I would assume the gauge cluster you have, if it's a 84, will hook right up as long as the the harness is a 84-88.

Mine was quite the different story beings that plugs on my cluster were round, and the ones on the harness were flat. Did a bit of splicing and it all came out right.

Only thing is I dont have a fuel light, a check engine light, and the speed sensor is hooked up yet. That damn speed sensor is the only code I'm getting so far! :)

I was being sarcastic about it being a kick in the ass. Overall I would have to say it wasn't a pleasure doing it, but it wasn't all that much of a pain either.

do you need a cat for the O2 sensor or not? didn't want to put one on if i don't have to. he keeps the mice out of the shop. thanks

When I did my EFI on my 83 22r I was lucky. There are two different heads. If you have the one that has 20 holes on the intake side you are good and the EFI intake will bolt right up. If it is the other head yo will have to drill and tap three holes to adapt the intake. Which is esay to do. You could use a gasket for the template.

The other thing is you will have to drill and tap out a place to put the knock sensor.

After doing my swap, I love it. I would do it all over again if I had to. To make it easy on me I also pulled the whole 83 harness and repalced it with the 85 harness and most of the plugs pluged right up. The ignition was diff and the dash cluster but other than that go for it.

My o2 sensor is located on the exhaust manifold. I am currently not running one and it seems to run fine. My 88 never had one either (factory efi) and it ran fine also.

I got lucky! I had another head laying around. As for the knock sensor I welded a 10mm nut onto a 8mm bolt and just screwed it into one of the existing holes. I dont have air conditioning so It worked out pretty good.

I was refering to thread size not wrench size, on the 10mm and 8mm. I want to say the threads are a 1.25 pitch. or is it 1.50
