I say weld it. I have my 7.5" welded and it works great. No problems as of yet. Just make sure you do a good job welding it up! Good Luck.

Steering in the front? Not on my application! It isnt to bad if the truck is bouncing around, but once them two front tires are hooked up, I cant physically turn a corner. Of course I don't have power steering in the damn thing either. I would have to say power steering is a must! I usually get around them pesky corners by getting out and unlocking the hubs, pain in the ass might I add. I'll probably go ahead and swap it to the rear.

Well for better or worse it's done, not the prettiest welds you will ever see, but guess what you never will. I'm thinking about welding my front but not untill I do a hysteer swap with ram assit, and some long fields. So far it works good, the clutch sure slips more with the rear locked, wasnt as noticable before, I just need to find a day to do it.

what size of tire are you runnin'? I have 36's on mine and I was thinking of swapping the diff to the rear. You'll have to let me know how yours reacts on the pavement!

i have my rear welded up. i love it. on pavement it chips the inside rear tire, but other than that it's great. as for the front i did not care for it. i could not steer even with power steering, and it broke lots of front axles! when you weld clean it with brake cleaner or something it help with spater. and cover the ring and pinion! 7018 or if a mig turn the heat up. it's a gerat mod.

90% of the time steering isn't bad. But the other 10% of the time is impossible. It's worth welding the ifs, so that you don't waste $ on it. I run 33's/5.71's and have yet to have a problem.

does that 10% occur on the trail, or when? wedged?

When you need steering most, on tight technical rocky sections, and of course your tires are aired down rendering your steering about useless... -Murphys Law I guess... :D

Sometimes you can't turn just driving down the trail, and sometimes it occurs when your trying to turn during an obstacle. It's still worth just welding it I.M.H.O.
AZ---I welded yours up didn't I?

I hated my rear welded. I have broken 4 rear shafts in the past year. And have worn out tires pretty fast too. The money you spend for lockrite or detroit, you will save in tire wear. I just finally put a detrtoit in my rear a couple weeks ago. A little slop, but I love it. No more chriping tires going around corners, and people yelling at me..."Don't Roll it" because it binds up the suspension and causes it to lean really bad going round corners.
I welded the front, and took it out once like that. I burned up my ps fluid, and broke my box off the frame. It was terrible driving down a dirt road, really hard to turn. So I installed ram assist. No I can even drive on the pavement with the front locked in and it isn't hard to steer, and no more breaking the box off the frame.

If you weld the ifs carrier make sure you bring one or two extra c.v. axles. I just broke my first one and it didn't take much to do it.
