If you had your head off your 22r-e, what would you do while you have it apart? I am planning on doing a lot of cleaning, and having my fuel injectors cleaned. What else should I think about?

It's real easy to drop the oil pan to inspect and/or replace lower end bearings. Real easy to do from below.

I would go with a steel backed timing set from d.o.a or l/c.Get the injectors cleaned and balanced.clean the throttle body,hoses.seals,belts,t-stat...But thats just me...If i tear that far into a project, mnight as wll give it a go over..

I just got the head off yesterday, I was noticing the timing chain guides looked kinda chewed up at the top. Looks like something else I might have to look into!

Yeah, go for the metal-backed timing chain guides and a cam!! :)
Or we could see what it takes to make it the fastest, locked, mall-crawler ever! :D

I had the same question last month. Had the head off and was going to need to replace top end and for a few hundred dollars more i could get a new rebuilt long block with a 3 year 36000 mile warranty so my desscion was prettty simple new motor plus my bttom end needed work but do drop the pan look at the bearings cause you dont want to put it back together and have the bottom end go out on you.
