Does anyone know anything about the stock toyta diesel engines, I might be able to pick one up cheap, the guys complaining about not enough power on the trail, he's only running 31's, does anyone think it's worth looking at for an install, and what about getting more power out of them, I'm not scared of diesels, I'm a ford diesel mechanic so I don't think anything would be a problem, as long as it is worth the time to do the swap, I'm looking at building a 22r short block with a stroker kit and a beefed up 20r head.

i think it would be awesome to some of the same stuff that is done to other diesels. toyota always makes a better product than everyone else:) so i am sure you could fab a turbo set up or run a propane system etc and it would work great. diesel is capable of more power anyway you look at it and it is usually at lower rpm. i would run one if i could.

I think it would be cool to have a turbo diesel truck, with propane injection for the mud holes, I know propane is the diesel version of NOS. Does anyone have any info on doing this swap, will the engine bolt to the gas trans or is it different, also are there an performance parts out there.

what engine is it? there is a good chance a 2l will bolt to a truck trans but maybe not, those diesel toy trucks did use a different trans. if you used a diesel from a bj it would work with a lc trans and tcase becuase they came that way in your country. you could always try to use a divorced case if you had to. personally i have always thought it would be cool to use something like a 471 detroit diesel (or whatever ther nmber is) that would be a 4cyl but what would you bolt that to? it would be a lot of work but alot of torque!

Did You Ever Find Out If You Can Make The Swap From The 22re To The Diesel Without Changing The Tran? I Found A Truck With 45000 Miles On It I Have Driven The Truck Runs Great Just Need To Know If Ill Have To Replace Everything.

any of the "L" series diesel engines (1L, 2L, 2L-T, and 3L) will bolt right up to a 22r bellhousing. the only ones of the bunch that really make enough power to be worth it in a 4wd are the 2L-T (turbo) and the 3L (non-turbo), but you will definately have to change gearing if you are going to be doing any amount of hwy driving as they both have less HP than a stock 22re. they also use the same engine mount location as the "R" series engines so the swap is pretty much bolt in with minor modifications. one thing to look out for is cooling, if you are going to be running these toyota diesels in a hot climate (south west, for example) you will need to install a EGT gauge and possible upgrade your radiator and/or add an intercooler. there have been numerous reports from Oz of crack heads on these diesels, primarily as a result of too much heat. Also consider that if you are swapping the diesel from a 2wd into a 4wd you may run into problems with oilpan clearance if the 4wd is 86+ (IFS). i dont think trucks with Solid fronts are as big a concern.
if you are still interested and want more/better info than I can give you, check out Totota Diesel Madness BBS (http://www.toyotadieselmadness.com) . there is a wealth of information there and alot of knowledgable guys who have already done diesel swaps into toyotas.
