Has anyone ever had a valve seat fall out on a 22r/re? I think the second one is in the process of falling out of my truck, with less then 40k miles on the head!!

What makes valve seats fall out? Is it just a poorly made head or if the engine is running poorly effect it?

I dropped a seat in my yota in December, #1 intake...

I talked to some mechanics and some engineers at work that design heads and they said it was mostly due to electrolysis, then antifreeze leaks into the intake and 'hydraulically' pushes the seat out like you would push out a pilot bearing with grease...

anyway, I'll post pics tomorrow if I remember...

You must remember to hook up all your grounds to the head...one from the firewall to the head and also one from the passenger fenderwell to the lower/upper intake mounting studs...that keeps the electrolysis from building up.

You could also try a coolant additive: Nelcol I think - check the heavy duty and truck parts shops for it.

Wow.. That is interesting. I will check my grounds tomorrow.

When I lost a seat the first time I made the company I bought the long block from do the head work. They never gave me any ideas as to why it would have happened, though I remembered them saying something about having to weld up some pitting in the head or something.

It's very important to hook up those grounds! It also can't hurt to add another one.

I noticed when I hooked up the grounds again my rig idled better and the ghost hesitation I had from 1600-2000 rpm went away :)

Thanks for posting those picts!!! That is interesting!

I finally got a chance to take a peek at the engine last night. I did a compression test and I have no compression in #2. So I popped off the valve cover, but unlike when my valve seat fell out the #2 valves were not loose. They seemed tight enough. So now I am thinking maybe a burned valve, or something with the rings or piston or.. who knows.

My faith in toyotas is going down hill quick!!
