are you running a chevy alternator or a toyota alternator?
if it is a chevy and you are looking at the connector from the top with the pully facing away from you it is the one on the right and you just jump it over to the battery terminal.heres my tech article (http://www.wildyoats.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=693)

toyota alternators are only 50 or 60 amps at the most. unless someone else rebuilt it to higher amps.

regardless, it should just hook up like the stock alternator. internal regulator, and some wires that run to the dash to warn of a bad charge.

so your truck is an 85 and your alternator is off another 85 with efi right. they should hook up the same no matter if it is efi of not.

You "could" always bring it to a auto parts store that tests them for free and see how they hook it up, and you'll know how well it works and if the bearings are good........
