Thanks to Gnarly4X @ Offroad.com/toyota for this "I modified my stock air cleaner (something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, but just hadn’t done it). I stacked two stock air filters (STP brand $3.99 each from AutoZone) on top of each other, extended the little bolt on the carb with a coupler and a 2” bolt (Ace Hardware, $1.00). I also had to cut and insert a rubber extension tube for the air filter housing to top of the valve cover breather tube. If you can envision this, there is now a 1.75” gap between the top lid of the air filter and the top of the rim of the air filter canister. The HP and torque gain was immediately noticeable! I can drive on flat freeway, no head wind, at 80 MPH at 3150 RPM in 5th gear!! (I have stock 4.10 gears and 32” BFG ATs) with my gas pedal right at the detent before kicking in the secondary on the carb. Before this, I could only get my truck to 80 MPH in 4th gear with the gas pedal smashed to the floor and it didn’t like it! If I had not done this myself, I would have been very skeptical of the amount of power gain, but this was very very noticeable. The engine now revs easily to 5 grand and is pulling from 4,000 to 5,000 RPM. Before it would just wind and wind without really pulling. Now in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, the engine is pulling from 4,000 RPM. I don’t know what kind of increase, if any, in gas mileage."Offroad.com/toyota (http://bbs.off-road.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=offroadtoytruck&Number=1067281&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1)

Hey, that is a great idea, my carb runs way to rich and with the mixture screw leaded in it is very diff if not impossible to adjust. To pass emmisions I just took the entire air cleaner off and that leaned it out enough to cut CO2 in half! This looks like a great way to do the same thing and be safe on the street! :D

I did that a while back on a older truck I had. Once you hit a dusty road though its game over, The cleaner fills up very fast

Just needs a piece of sheet metal cut the length of the circumfrence and wide enough to stick up to the lid. Then just rivet it around the original canister and increase the inlet pipe size.

Yah, it's a bit more moddin' but custom work is cool. As long as it's not duct tape and bailing wire.

Disclaimer:
There's nothing wrong with using duct tape and bailing wire for a trail fix. It's just not for permanant repairs or installs. Fix it right when you get back to camp or home.

Bet YOU $$$ GEt More Power if you build a induction to get colder air from your CAB or bumber air !!!
Seal a rubber pipe fitting on carb and run 3" tube into cab or (wiper motor) with a K&N on the end
There's your BLING
Then you wouldn't have to worry so much about Water in the engine:Rockonman
