tired of rust? me too.
over the years i have tried alot of different ways of stopping rust.
it seems that alot of the products out there work fairly well, but when finished applying the product are you happy with the appearence? well i think i know the trick to a finished product that looks great, is very durable and is easy to touch-up..
the answer. DUPLI-COLORS SPRAY ON TRUCK BED COATING. this stuff is great! it's easy to apply, dries fast and looks great. i've used it on bumpers, on the vallance(resists rock chips) and on different parts of my 4runner.. it also comes in a brushable form.(qt. or gal. cans.) and it is paintable. i plan on using it on allot of other ares as well. this stuff rocks!
you can get it at just about any auto parts store (checker, auto zone, pep boys) it costs about $7.00 per 16.5oz spray can, and well worth it!
to this day i have yet seen any surface that i used this stuff on begin to rust. it really is great stuff..
happy crawling.. keep the rubber side down.. jprunner

I like and use that stuff too. How long have you had it on your truck though? You would still have to prep it the same, It just might take longer to go through the rubber than paint.

yes, prep has alot to do with rust prevention. using a rust prohibitor is the key in rust prevention.

If you want to stop the rust forever use this stuff...rust doctor,,It converts rust to a non rustable surface that can be primed, sanded and painted..I tell you I have seen other products close to this but not the same..It is acid less and no fumes, cures with in a few hours..I think this is the web site..Its cheap, easy, and kills the rust...

the only true way to get rid of rust is to cut it out or grind it out and then treat it. use a good 2 part epoxy primer if it is going to be an area that has moisture. Some primers and bondo will absorb the water and cause more problems later on.

The Duplicolor is good stuff. You can buy it in gallons @ NAPA with a cool little sprayer that works off the gallon jug. I think it is around $40 + $25 for the sprayer. A gallon goes a long way.Herculiner is much better and much more spensive.

My whole truck is rust. The best way to eliminate rust is to get a primer that contains zinc. This works as an anode and stops your truck from rusting. Its a little more expencive than regular primers though worth it.

hey leigh,
i should mention that this coating works best when the metal is preped properly.
what primers w/zinc work the best, and where is the best place to purchase them.
thanks for your response.

I had rust on my hood. the whole thing rusted with surface rust I guess because I painted it with a spray bomb and left it that way.

but I used the spray on rust converter to try and stop it from rusting and that was 8 years agao and no sign of rust there again. I sprayed it down in my tailgate that was rusting through and kept spraying until it was dripping out of the rusted holes and it stopped the rust. the biggest problem there is the design of the gate allows water to trap in the bottom of the gate if the seals get broken on the access panel. but the rust hasn't gotten any worse and that too was 8 years ago. so say what you will it worked for me. It was rust doctor in a spray can got it at advance auto parts.

there seem to be several brands on the market that work pretty well on stoping rust.. the key is following the directions of any of these products and remember to prep, prep, prep!! the surface to be treated..
good luck with, the battle with rust.
