my 85 rear window "thingy" that attaches to the glass and rotates as the window comes up is broken. So my window won't stay attached to the parts to bring it up or down. Does anyone have any idea what this thing is called or how I can replace it so I can roll up and down my rear window? Right now I have the paneling off so that I can stick my hand in and kind of guide it.

Thanks

Kevin

that part is called the rear window regulator.

or put a bolt in it to make it stay put, when you roll up all the way. thats what i did for awhile. am not sure but it is confusing you said your rear window? are u talking about the sliding one or what? or the door window

He has a 4runner, not a a pickup, so he's refering to the tailgate window.

Sorry, I didn't read well enough I guess. I thought that the regulator was broken and needed replacing. Didn't realize that it was only separated from the glass. Is it the metal channel that the glass slips into? If it is, clean it out really well before you do anything. Then put a heavy bead of clear window adhesive (kind of like silicone) in the track. I bought some at the auto parts store for a few bucks, in a tube like toothpaste. Roll the window up and leave it that way overnight. All done!

Yes, it is the rear roll up window. The regulator is all rusted out and won't hold the window bar in place as it is moving up and down, it slips out of the bar that holds the window. Does that make any sense?

perhaps the peice I am refurring is not called the regulator, it is the round piece that fits in the horizontal piece that holds the window that goes in the slot in the piece that holds the window that rotates (it is round) as the window moves up and down.

inorder to get all those new peices im fairly shure that you have to buy a full new rear window
