I have a 1986 4 runner with 260,000 and I am starting an engine rebuild due to a blown head gasket, I am currently planning on putting in the LC engineering stroker kit, and I wondered if anyone had any recommendations on head work that should be done.
The head was purchased already rebuilt at 200,000 miles to replace a cracked head, it is in good condition and has an RV cam, but still using stock valves.
Related information, The truck is EFI, I plan on using standard intake and exhaust manifolds (glass pack and high flow cat), it is primarily street use, and I am running stock suspension with 31x10.50's
(Pictures of motor innards tomorrow)
I built a stroker using that kit so if you run into any problems I can probably help. What comp ratio are you shooting for and has that head been shaved any? I had some problems with a lean condition at first but I'm pretty good now. With my my comp ratio at around 10 to 1 it still pings on 87 octane if you advance the ignition timing over 5 with the jumper in. I would also recommend the heavy flywheel and if you are thinking about using the EFI Pro cam don't. I pulled that cam out and got a C270 from Tim at DOA racing and it made a world of difference in the low to midrange without sacrificing much on the top end.
Here are my specs: LC stroker kit, 35lb flywheel, dualrow timing chain conversion, adjustable camgear, .5mm oversized valves, head shaved .010, C270 camshaft, big bore TB, and LC header.

Thanks for the suggestions, right now there are a lot of details I haven't figured out yet, hopefully I will have a better plan once I am done cleaning measuring and inspecting this weekend. One of my big questions is how much modification has to be done to the block to accept the stroker kit, right now I am under the impression that I will have to use a die grinder to provide clearance for the rod bolts, and I am concerned about what this might due to the long term life of the block particularly if myself or my machinist make a mistake.
outside the block modifications I plan to
k&N filter as the only modification to the intake
Set of remanufactured(balanced) injectors from LCE
Stock manifold with high flow cat and high flow cat back system.
I am also still thinking about whether the fuel injectors air flow meter will be able to keep up with the increase in displacement.
I really appreciate your tips

The only clearance issue was with the number 1 rod, it barely touched the oil galley and some quick work with a file was all that was needed. The problem is not really with the AFM but trying to figure out how to get more fuel to the motor using the stock FI system. Like most people, I richened the mixture up by dicking with AFM and I also slightly restricted the fuel return line. I used a hose clamp on the return line and measured fuel pressure to stay safe and I would try that first since it's easier. I haven't looked at LCs prices lately but did you check on sending your injectors to RC Engineering for testing/rebuild?
EDIT: I've heard of people using Turbo injectors but I can't say yes or no since I'm using stock. Why don't you want to use a header?

The project got temporarily derailed, but I am making progress again, so I thought I would share.
I ended up deciding not to do any major performance mods.
But I have a new RV head from engnbldr
injectors cleaned by RC engineering
the block was bored over slightly and decked by a local machine shop
They also supplied me with new pistons rings and bottom end bearings
They also cleaned up the crankshaft
Now I just have to put it all back together.

I mad a little more progress last week on the engine rebuild.
