Any one had aspirations to have a dual fuel natural gas rig? Natural gas is like $0.63 per gallon in Utah. I have some friends with Chevy cars that have been converted to also run on NG. 1st thought is to convert my 22RE. 2nd thought is to get a chevy small block V8 and convert it to NG. I have heard that the chevy conversion kits are the only gov. approved, and therefore cheaper, kits. Does anyone have any info on any of this?

I think now prices are about $0.85 in the valley.

Here is a good link for stations and current pricing. (http://www.cngoutfitters.com/stations)

Here is a list of the EPA certified kits. (http://www.ngvamerica.org/pdfs/marketplace/MP.Analyses.NGVs-a.pdf)

If you go with a kit that is not EPA certified you will have problems with UHP, and getting emissions to pass.

I do know that Utah has sent out a letter to all emissions certification facilities telling them to not pass any converted vehicle that does not have an EPA certification.

Also I do know that certification is not valid on swapped engines. Each EPA Certification is Year, Model, and Engine specific. Meaning, that a certification for say a 2004 GMC Yukon w/5.3 liter vortex v8, would ONLY apply to that specific vehicle. A new certification would be required for another year, or model, even though they may share EXACTLY the same engine and electronics.

So what it comes down to is you will have to design something that can have minimal visibility, so when it comes time to go get emissions you can put good old gas in the tank and pass as if CNG was never installed.
