I've taken it in my 4runner, which is pretty much stock (a little lift in the back for the 4runner sag) and 29's. Though I did have a locker. I think the trail is rated so high because it is a little scary to drive for the first time, but I have heard people say it should really be a 3 or 3+. As long as you aren't afraid to drag your bumper a lot it shouldn't be bad.. :)

(In comparison, I have been told that Rattlesnake is a 3.5 when I ran it and I bearly got through it with some body damage and having to be winched/towed off of rocks twice but I ran Hells Revenge with little trouble.)

I think the only reason Hell's Revenge is rated a 4+ is because it can be a dangerous trail for beginners with little experience. It should probably be rated more around a 3 - 3+. It's alot of steep up and down driving on huge, tall slickrock fins so you want to make sure you brake system is in good order & working properly. I ran most of the trail with my girlfriend and she was driving her stock '02 Xterra. We didn't have any real problems, even with her truck.

Hey thanks for the input guys, I was down there last week and this was my first trail run ever in moab. Man was it sweet. I didn't have any problems. It is a little scary going over tip over chalenge etc but nothing psycho. Anyway I only hit my bumper down at the overlook trying to turn around. And that did nothing to it. So yah thanks for the help again.

Yup, but I didnt do them, but a jeepbuggy thing with coilovers and some other unknown type of vehicle in our group did. Pretty sweet.

For the record, these are not part of the official designated trail.

An advisory from the BLM.

Don't they run those obstacles during the EJS??? If so, the RR4W must have permission from the BLM.

If it is a 4+ it's probably because of the optional obsticles.

No, in fact they ask that you don't run them. The BLM is closing some of the additional obstacles that have been added to existing trails. Although it is bad for us... we must do our best to abide by these laws and tell others to do the same...

Eveyone do their part in keeping trails open :D

Trail guide books rate this trail as a 4 without even taking into consideration Devils Gate or Hells Gate...

The trail is doable in a very stock 4x4... (I have seen powerstrokes, a FS dodge, and numerous stock TJ's do this trail)

Devils Gate and Hells Gate arn't all that bad either, a locker is pretty much mandetory in the rear... a few members of out Cruiser club did both obstacles in FJ80's and Taco's... :D

I've read that the only reason the trail is rated a 4 - 4+ is the danger factor. Sure a stock truck can make it easily, but they don't want inexperienced drivers on those steep inclines and large fins. If the trail was rated a 3 then everyone and their mother would be trying it and there would most likely be some bad mishaps.
