okay in Alaska we have A LOT of mud so crawling doesn't really go. Nothing against rock crawling. so I was wandering what would be some good ideas to build a mudder out of a toy with the stock engine.

hey i like mud! but mud in a toyota? idk the 22r dont make enough power to get through the thick stuff, youll most likely wanna regear if u wanna keep the stock engine, other than that the normal stuff in mud trucks tires, lift, snokle if ya want shit man just have fun with it!:chicken:

Low gears in the axles, big tires, lift, snorkle, lockers, and as much power as you can squeeze out of a four banger.

the biggest problem is getting the power to spin the tires fast enough to clean em out. playing with gears is a good way to start and gear ratios depend on tire size. too low of a gear and you wont have enough wheel speed to get through the thick but too high of a gear and you will stall out you need to build your engine for higher rpm, and gear it down as low as possible. id probabally go 5.29 gears but if your going to go with a bigger tire than 35'', 5.71 would be the way to go and give you a low enough gear to be able to grab 2nd and 3rd gear. i would almost go 5.71 with 35''s in the mud, just remember your going to have t wind it out! honestly for the cheap budget a v8 swap is cheaper and you could stay 4.10

another not so well know mud trick, use pam or baby oil in a spray doctor on the underside of the truck and on the voids between lugs on the tires. works well to keep crap from stickin on the underside so you don't get the clump in the eye when working on it and keeps the weight of the tires down by limiting weight gathered from mud build up.
