I have searched the site to see if any one has or is running a pacesetter exhaust, and no luck. There is alot about how not to get a pacesetter header. My question is this, I have an LC header (love it) but right now it's just running to the stock exhaust, which is rusty and on it's last leg. I have been looking at the downey system ($400) 2 1/2", but I just found a pacesetter system (2 1/4") that bolts up right behind the cat (PLEASE DON'T TELL ME TO CUT OUT THE CAT, this must pass emisions testing.) it's about half the price of the downey and boost that is gives 12 to 14% more power to the wheels, Yet is it worth it or is it just crap? Is any one running this exhaust? does anyone know how much power the downey exhaust gives you? Also if you are running something differnt please let me in on it. No strait pipes please! I live in SLC cats are a must. The truck is an early 85 sr5 EFI standard bed, and money is an issue, but I don't wan't to be fooling with this in 3-4 years, the truck to be trails only in 5years but for the next 3 to 4 it's a DD, thanks.

Id honestly look into making your own, or having someone make you something. Because I think 2 1/2 on a stock-ish truck is to much, I built my own 2 1/4 to a magna flow muffler than 2 1/2 after the muffler for about 2'. Id never spend $400 on a aftermarket exhaust seeing how its going to get smashed and dirty. I pry spent $250 total including my hooker header. I might be able to make something for you if your interested? I have a EFI truck in my back yard I could use to mock it up? any muffler you want stock exit, stacks, sidepipe, duals() anything?....

yea hes right. i think what they charge for exhaust systems is outrageous! get the muffler you want (i prefer glass packs...haha) and get a high flow cat if you says its an issue, and have someone with a pipe bender bend some angles you need and just weld it all up. i think the last system i made i maybe had like $50-60 into it. and thats all said and done after i had the pipe bent at the local muffler shop. and yea 2 1/4 is plenty for the 22RE.

Thanks guys this is good stuff. I think I can get pass emisions with a high flow cat and I would like to just put a turbo muffler on it I just don't have a pipe bender or welder. Thats why the pacesetter looked good because it's only $182 and it's bolt on at fatory hanger local's. (once it's not the DD I plan to go minimal on the exhaust, if you know what I mean, kind of like the denver Defense if you know what I mean.) So basicly it sounds like I should go talk to an exhuast shop here in SLC and see what they can do and for how much. Thanks guys

yea i would do that first before goin and buyin a full system. plus ive only ever heard how bad pacesetter is, but then again ive never ran any of their shit. you have to have a friend who has a friend that works/owns a muffler shop that can bend you up some pipe...try that first...

well I must say that now that is half time that I was wrong about the broncos and about the pacesetter exhaust I will see if Ibuildcorollas can help me out with an exhaust that I want for less money then what the pacesetter crap cost.

My wife tells me I need to have an openmind but after my experience with that poor excuse for a header I'd have to see a shitload of positve feedback before I'd put anything with the name Pacesetter on my truck again.
You said you have to run a cat for inspection but that is once a year I think. Have the exhaust shop build you a testpipe and design your exhaust around that as you'll only be running the cat when you go to the sniffer.
I love all these guys that say you'll give up some low end torque by removing your cat but have no dyno numbers to back that claim up, they just read it on the internet. You gave up more lowend torque by putting that header on, using a freeflow cat, larger pipe, and a freeflow muffler than you ever thought about giving up by pulling/gutting your cat and going with larger pipe and sticking with a stock style muffler.
Gutting/cutting your cat is a federal offense so this post is for information purposes only.

pacesetter is uhh, good and bad more bad than good?
I had a pacesetter on my 81 1.8 HEMI corolla and it cracked, it was cheap...and thats about its strongest point.

Yeah that was the problem that I had when I tried to search it, was that it always when't in the direction of pacesetter's header. No matter though I have heard what I needed which is that it's not worth the time or money to mess with any thing with the name pacesetter on it.
As for the cat I would just get rid of it if I still lived in Moab but seeing as how bad the air quality is up here in Salt Lake, I don't really mind having it on if it helps my truck to lower it's emissions. Which brings up a question. If I put a high flow cat on does it up the emissions and if so would it still pass the sniffer? (can you tell that I don't know dick about exhaust?)

as far as i know any cat will pass its more of a visual in utah i think on newer cars you have a 02 sensor in front and and back of the cat. I had a dual 2 1/4 from headers back put on my blazer for under 300 in springville so i would think you could have half that done for under 150 lumpys in A.F. will pass anything if you pay them to fix that exhast leak (that you dont really have) for 20 bucks just some options

Thanks man I could have really used that info back when I had my nissan hard body with the 5" lift SAS D44 and 33 12 50 tires that were bald and sticking out a good 3 1/2" past the fenders. (that thing was a money pit, and even with all the stuff that I did to it and locked up my stock open toyota could out wheel it any day. the nissan rock cralwer idea was a bad one at best.) I was looking at the cat and noticed that it looks like it's a pretty big inlet and exit on it like 2 1/2" (looks like). Is this how they make them stock or is it safe to say that it was replaced with a high flow cat at some point?

really a high flow cat just has a lower restriction elemtent in it, so in theory it shouldnt do as good a job as a regular one, but it would probably still pass emmision. i dont have this problem b/c i live in iowa. but here is a link i found to a magna flow high flow cat. kinda pricey. i would look on ebay and shit first before i bought a new one, to see if you could find a better deal.
