I have a 1987 4runner that I installed 4.7 gears in, however, the 'runner is on it's last leg, and I just purchased a '93 pickup to replace it. Both are 22re 5 speed manuals with gear drive t-cases. In 1989 Toyota began relocating the t-case shifter on the trans. This shifter is easy to remove with a retaining clip. My question is: when swapping my '87 case to the '93 trans. what do I do with the hole in the trans. where the old t-case shifter was? My '87 uses a top mount shifer (located on the t-case), and I assume the shift rods from the '93 case will slide out of the trans. when I remove the case. I just need to know how to cap the trans. Thanks for any help fellas!

You buy a block off plate like one of these from Trail-gear http://www.trail-gear.com/dualcase.html . Scroll down a little, they are $5 bucks.

I believe this to be for the "G" code transmissions. Mine is either a w56-c or w56-d. Picured tward the bottom... http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transmission/transmission.htm
My factory cover is nearly three times the size of those, uses 6 bolts to fasten, and houses a bung for both the trans. and the 'case shifters. Said bungs protrude almost an inch, so I know I cant just lay it over top of the factory cover. Thanks, though!

I'd call Marlin, he is the expert on Toyota tranny's. Might be able to custom fab a plate to cover it.

Thanks, I have contemplated sticking the shifter back in there to seal the hole, since I am not running dual cases. ????????????

why not just bolt a piece of sheetmetal on there to cover it?

Like I said above, there is a bung that the shifter sits inside, the bung protrudes nearly an inch! Thanks fellas!
