Hey, I busted a Detroit Tru-Trac (front axle) and the collateral damages were spreading of the carrier bearings and chipped teeth on the ring gear.
Right now I'm strapped for cash and I have an important run comming up. Think the gears would hold up? I'm replacing the carrier housing, carrier and locker. I'm going to try a Lock Right this time.
Here's the worst:

I would run them. I have seen people run worse.

I think you'll make it if your spiders are good, but I would get new gears as soon as you have the cash. P.S. your not going to like that lock-right, it's going to be loud and jerky.

I got a Detroit in the rear and it clunks now and then. I plan to get a Marling twin stick to shift out the front when needed.

I had a lock rite in the rear of a truck. It was loud and clunky but I liked it. Eventually I want to get an aussie locker.

If you're still running stock birfields, just be careful about applying too much throttle when you have your front wheels turned.......you might want to carry some spares and be familiar with how to swap them out on the trail:eek:------------Hans

Yeah I have ran a lock right before as well, and it did the job it was just f'n annoying when it did it's ratching crap and it was loud. But they work. Oatmeal is right, be careful with it because it will brake sh$$ if you get on it.

aussie's are quieter than the lock rites and cheaper too. im running an aussie up front and i dont even know its there , except for when it crawls right up just about anything.

I have a safety mechanism for that... A wornout clutch! :redspotda
I think that's what saved my axles in the first place.
I bought the Lock Right to support an American company. Personally speaking, I have ran both and I have found no difference in characteristics. The Aussie makes a little less noise, but I think it's because the springs aren't as strong at the ones in the Lock Right. Both are almost identicle in design.
That's just my observation.

Fawk, compared to some gears I've run and the one's in my rear diff right now, they're brand new.
Go for it.

They are "brand new". Just put them in last November.

Not to punk you out but if you wanted to support an American company, why drive a Toyota?
What is the tire size limitation difference between the Aussie and the Lokright and what is the price difference?

Why would you be worried about the spiders if he is planning on installing a Lockright?
Are they to throw at a passing car to get their attention if he gets stuck or something?
