View Full Version : Turbo truck...how much?

so....i found an 86' reg cab 22RE TURBO 4x4 5-speed. it doesnt have a bed...but this truck is clean. no rust what so ever. hard to find around here...its been sittin for a bit...so it probably needs a little tuning up...but thats no biggy...i was just wonderin what a fair price would be...never owned a turbo...but i know they are like gold...hes askin $1800 for it...what ya think?

$1800 doesn't sound bad, how many miles on it? I might offer $1500 and see if they bite.

just over 100K...maybe gonna work out a deal to trade my 93' truck to him for it...plus parts to do an SAS on the turbo...and we'll kinda see where we are in the end of the build. hes my main toyota hook up...got anything and everything for a toyota truck...and 10 of them...haha...its pretty sweet...but for a base frice just for the truck to go from there on credit for parts hes gonna give me is kinda what i was trying to figure out...

OK, it's a TURBO 22RE, and the turbo they put on those wasn't particularly great. 100K miles puts it at (maybe past) it's life expectancy, unless it was babied and well maintained ALL it's life (for example, you have to let it run at idle 5-10 min before shutting off after a long drive, etc). They're not rebuildable and a replacement unit is in the range you're paying for the entire truck.
Just keep that in mind.

true...i am goin to see him today so ill ask...but even so...the truck is rust free...thats kinda what im trying to get because this is goin to be the new project. even if the turbo did take a shit...a reg. 22re would fit in its place just fine. i thought the turbos claimed like 150hp? which is quite a jump from a reg 22re...

yea...they expensive...but like i said before...this guys got everything...and 10 of them...no joke...so if anything ever failed, he would have they part to replace it...including r151's...or the other route i could take is go with this 92' reg cab 22re with a brand new rebuilt...and like 0 miles on the rebuild. the truck is going to be the new offroad truck either way i go...nothin crazy for now...just SAS it, lift to clear 33's or 35's, lock the rear, and gears.
