I have a 1986 4runner but I want a front solid axle. Can I get a 84-85 pick up and swap the bodies? If so do I want the extended cab truck or does it matter?

i did a full swap of cab and bed. im not too sure what the fit is with a 4runner and a pickup but its not ez. look in ur engine bay and every thing u see that is coneccted to the bay much be taken of, its not impossible, but its not ez. also u need a short bed standard cab for it to fit the xtracab and longbed has a longer wheel base

you would be better off buying the axle and stuff and doing a swap
about the same amount of work
cutting out your old front set up is easy enough
and installing a kit to get a solid axle is pretty simple and has instructions
if your not capable to do the work then your in trouble trying to do the body swap.
just my 2 cents
buy your stuff
and do the swap your self if you can weld and cut
if not then can you cut?
get all your parts together and then do a search on pirate or other boards and get the needed info to install it and what you'll need to get it complete
Get it all ready and take it to a local welder to weld it in.
all you need is springs, spring hangers, a drop bracket, and high steer arms
I saw a complet front axle with high steer and 529 gear with a locker for 600 the other day on a board oh yeah it had longfields as well.
so look around on the toyota for sale forums
axle 250 or so high steer used saw one for 200 with all the needed parts to install and ubolt flip kit as well stuff goes fast but you can aquire it if your looking. springs you can get a set of used springs with what ever lift your desiring to run used off the boards.
look around

yea...just SAS the runner. way easier...to do the body swap you would have to cut and reweld all the body mounts...and depending on the year runner...if it has coil springs in the rear you are going to have to redo all that as well...just SAS
