View Full Version : Two-piece to One-Piece driveshaft question
I have purchased a single driveshaft to replace the two piece driveshaft on my 90 X-cab 4x4 Yota. If you want to see an example check it out here: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/driveshaft/ I basically got the same one. You will see in the at the bottom of the page he mounted the slip yoke of driveshaft at the rear end. I was thinking about mounting it at the tranny output. Does it really matter where it is mounted? What would be the pros and cons?
Thanks in advance

mount it how you want it as long as it doesn't have a cv (like the front driveshaft by the transfer case), it shouldnt matter. I would probably put the slip yoke on top too, just my preference. Water/dirt would probably be less likely to get in it mounted on top too too.

The slip joint end is normally mounted at the t-case instead of the diff.
It's more protected up there, especially if you wheel in the rocks.
But it'll work either way.
After installation: my vibration was totally gone, the longest part about the installation was cutting out the bracket that holds the Center Support Bearing. This driveshaft fit perfectly, I would strongly recommend this swap to anyone that is having problems with the CSB.
I contacted Steve from South Bay driveline on Monday, paid over the phone on Tuesday, and it was at my house Wendsday.
He is having problems with his server but here is the contact info:
