I have heard about a mechanical style LSD for the front 7.5" diff. It has no clutches, just gears? Has anyone ever heard of this??? If you have what are the stats or horror stories of this locker.
I want to be able to turn when I am going up and down an obstical without spending the $$$ on an ARB. Any suggestions?

The Truetrac is a pretty decent unit and a little easier on the IFS's halfshafts. It does require driver input in the form of brake modulation for it to "lock up". It's not really a locker but, it works damn near as well. I've wheeled with a few guys that ran them in their rigs and I was blown away by how well they performed. It works best with an automatic or gearing (crawler  ) low enough that you wouldn't have to touch the clutch (got three feet? )---------Hans

hes talking about the toyota 8" diff, they are all the same diffs. your 85 has 8" front as well as 8" rear where ifs has 7.5" front and 8" rear. the locker hes talking about could also be a few different lockers ie: lock rite , aussie locker, power trax. these are all lunchbox lockers that will drop into an existing carrier replacing the spider gears. a detroit locker is a complete carrier type and is the strongest and quietest type of locker.

whats the mod' for it? do you have spec's?The links I posted are pretty informative. Weld up a couple of holes, drill and tap a couple of new ones, notch the housing with a grinder use the wiring diagram of your choice and you have a selectable locker! I did my own ......it's not too difficult but, by no means a bolt in either.---------Hans
