Finally my dream has paid off.... sort of
i bought a 1979 toyota 4x4 4 days ago and it needs some work
i bought it for $800... good deal for that price
4 inch suspension lift and 35 inch mud terrains
nice felx but a little rough offroad
the frame is almost completely crumbled where the bed connects to the cab but im going to some welding and get that nice and fixed
straight up its pretty much a ATV with a bed
no power steering
and the bad thing is i need this as an everyday ride and a toy on weekends

heres where i need help
one the brakes SUCK... have to push them all the way down to slowly stop
next the clutch... its new but the pedal slowly comes out after u let off it... should i use clutch grease?
and i want to put power steering in it... how much would that run me.. roughly

please help... im hoping i didnt make a mistake buying this

well like i pretty much tell everyone all i know is about 84 runners and i hope what little advice i can give you will help the only thing i can comment on is the brakes if i hit mine hard the go to teh floor and come to a slow stop (i call it my anti locks) i havnt done it but i have been told mulliple time it was my master cyclender adn if i replace that and bleed the whole system all would be good agian hope that helps some and as far as hoping u didnt waste ur money it u can crank it and drive it on an almost regular bases then in my book its worth $800

my 2 cents

drives for less than a grand = good deal.
w/ solid axle = great deal.
needs a little work = it's used, of course it does

brakes- i'd start by bleeding them properly (in the proper order). i'd even consider bench bleeding the old master cyl before replacing it. who knows if the previous owner ran the fluid dry or bled it properly before. you might be able to fix them for the cost of brake fluid and beverages of choice.

clutch- hydrolic clutch linkage i'm assuming. never heard of clutch grease as such. however check the pedal and mechanical linkage for drag or binding. you can use multi purpose here and at the clutch fork at the slave cyl. also check for a broken clutch pedal return spring. finally, bleed the hydrolic clutch. if the fluid is dark and thick it could give you trouble.

power steering- sorry, can't help much. you'll need a pump, brackets, hoses, power steering box, and pittman arm from a doner truck. would not be surprised if it cost near your original purcase price.

well
i got the cluth to come up quickly... just needed some WD40
i always keep a can around
and the master cylinder was just replaced before i bought it
i dont see anything wrong with the line
and the pads r fine

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH MY BRAKES

Bleed the brake system. You have to get all the air out!
You also could have a bad wheel cylinder, check for leaks.

take the time to bleed the brakes properly. a little air will cause the whole dang system to turn to poop. and if the "new" master wasn't properly bench bled you'll have a hard time getting all that air out at the wheel cylinders. bench bleed it again then bleed the system at the wheels AND load sensing proportioning valve by the rear axle. it should do the trick and brake fluid just isn't that expensive.

one other thing could be part of your trouble. double check that your rear brake shoes are properly adjusted and that the self adjusters are moving smoothly with a little grease on the threads of the adjuster mechanism. make sure all the parts are there and installed correctly. with to much space between the drum and shoes the wheel cylindar will not have enough throw to stop your truck.

o and if its not the master cylinder it could be booster or the vacume lines going to and from it! thats what my truck was. so yea.
