I have a 83 with a carb'd 87 re with offy intake and a weber run it at high alt as most of you on this site. I am happy with 60 mph and tow a boat and haul fishing and hunting gear very little freeway only when I"m loaded down and going about 100 miles or so I have 5-1/2 alcan lift and 33s just wondering on the rpm's of each? have a marlin trans that has rarley seen 5thgear! unloaded. when I'm loaded and going fishing the one grade i'm in 2nd at 3000 rpm at 30 mph I hate to go any slower it's easier to stay home my comute is about 6 miles a day and then the summer trips any help is great thanks race!

5.29s.

You will use 5th gear on the freeways but might have your motor screaming a little high if you decide to drive above 60 mph. With the towing you do and the 33" tires, 5.29s are the way to go. You'll notice a huge difference pulling away from a stop sign fully loaded with fishing paraphernalia. It will feel like you got a lot more horsepower.
I can't give you exact rpms of each. But i was told a long time ago that 4.88s and 33" tires would net you about back to stock ratio. While 5.29s and 35" tires will take you tire/gear ratio about back to stock.

Typically 4.88's with 33's and 5.29's with 35-36's if it sees more highway time than offroad, both for a manual tranny.
With an auto go one step lower in gearing.

5.29's anything but genuine gears , you want motive, yukon or precision....
