i have a 1992 toy 22re 4x4 with an exhaust issue. the exhaust it 100 percent stock and the donut gaskets after the stock header to the down pipe keep burning up and turning into powder. i have R&R ed them twice in 2 months and am about to do it a third time. i know its gone cause my exhaust gets loud. i thought it was a motor mount issue but the mounts r good. ideas???????? ive got 130,000 miles on it and runs great besides said problem. BTW did the engine goo clean out and injector rebuild and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. thanx

Those donuts are cruch type gaskets. This is pretty common. The thing to do is replace them, drive it for about 5 miles and then re tighten the bolts. The first time the gaskets are exposed to heat they shrink. Even the 5 mile drive on new donuts will be enough to constitute tightening the bolts again. Perodicly thghten the bolts over a week or 2 until the gaskets break in, I bet you won't have this problem.

good idea, the first time i replaced the donuts, the exhaust studs were not tight - they were not loose either. usually exhaust nuts and bolts break from rust and time (15 year old truck) and are a pain to work on but these slipped off easily so maby that was the issue. i'll try this .

haha i was having this exact same problem but I did tighten mine after a little drive and then I found out that the connector is actually warped :( that sucks but the exhaust isn't going to be on there much longer.

One thing I did, might not be such a great idea, was double up on the donut gaskets put one on top of the other it sealed the leak no problem and has lasted for a couple months but the new exhaust is going on soon so it did the job what I was asking it to do, seal the leak :D

hope you get it figured out

I was also going to order one of those just havn't had the time or money to do so yet. Let me know how it runs after you get it on.

Was also considering the northwest off-road header but I heard the customer service sucks so it is still a debate on which one to get.

Good luck with it

I've had just about every different header on a 22RE over the years and they are all good with the exception of Pacesetter. Cheap quality. Thorley is an excellent header for the price. I bought mine brand new from Summit for $190. Tri Y's work very good with the 22RE.

IF you got your header for 190 through summit. What was the exact part number for it? All the ones ive seen are like 3 bills. Did you buy like the 2wd blah blah blah?

Yes it was a 2WD header. Not sure why the 4WD headers are more money. 2WD headers fit just fine. It didn't have an O2 port but I just cut one off of a stock pipe. I don't recall the part # but I think the price might have gone up to $215 or something. I paid $179 and $10 shipping and handeling. Great header!
