I need a real expert on yota trannys for this one, I hope someone can help. I have an '86 turbo 4runner, the t-case is not working. I found a good parts truck, with a tranny and t-case but, its a non-turbo truck. I need to know the diffrence in the tubo, and non-turbo tranny and t-cast, both trannys are A430H, but some friends at the yota dealership told me they have diffrent part #'s. anybody know the diffrence?
Have you tried calling Angelo, he has a private junkyard with a bunch of yotas in Pensacola.
I called him and he said he had a tcase, he's looking for it now and he'll call me back.

I'm kinda new to this site, so I don't really know anyone yet but if you can find anything out I would really appreciate it. I'm thinking that it might be an internal diffrence like extra clutches to handle more torque or something like that, I really don't know. as far as I can tell they look the same, but I haven"t gotten a really close look at either of them yet
I could be wrong but if I remember correctly the tcase for the r151(turbo) was a 23 spline geardriven unit as opposed to the 21 spline unit mated to the other transmissions.
He told me they were different and that he had a tcase out of a turbo truck but he had to find it. I guess he yanks all the stuff from turbo trucks and locks it up since it's rare and his yard is kinda on the honor system in regards to what you pull and what you pay.
Did you ever get your grille and stuff?

The A340H is an auto tranny, is that what you have ?
The manual tranny that came on the turbo trucks is the R151F, and the t-case that mates to it is 23 spline input, vs 21 spline for the non-turbo. Cases are otherwise the same.
Just swap the input shafts between the 2 cases. While disassembling you'll probably find out what's wrong w/the original case.

I have the a340h, automatic, but toyota list diffrent part #' s for the a340h for the turbo and non turbo applications, just wondering what the diffrence is
still working on that grille bodo, but its getting there, just got her painted. how did you know I was looking for a grille. when did we talk before? what part of p'cola are you in?
He still hasn't called me, Ill try in the morning.
I read your other post about the grille when I saw you were in Pensacola, I must have missed them before. I'm between 9 and 10 mile road up towards Cantonment. If you need anymore parts PM me and I'll either have them or give you a number for someone local that will so you don't have to look in our wonderfull junkyards that don't have any yotas.

Output shaft spline count maybe? (23 vs 21)
Hopefully more though, to handle the extra HP of the turbo.
