Ihave read mixed things about the T100.....But i can pick up a 266k miles ext cab 2wd for 100 bucks. Its got something wrong with the motor or exhaust manifold, but no rust that i can see on the frame or body. Just motor noise coming out of the manifold area. How many miles is an auto tranny good for on this model?
Any opinions on reliabilty or anything else on these toyotas?
Thanks

I dont really know too much about NoN running t100s but iknow the ones that do are great machines.
If its 100 bucks why not. The rear axle is worth that much.

Hehe, it does "run", But I'm not good at interpreting strange noises coming out of an engine. Worst case I figure i will put it under a tarp until my 92 toyo PU finally dies then look for an engine if it needs one.
So is the engine a good one or not, the old reviews i found were kind of so so on the T100 but they mostly mentioned that it didnt sell well and that it seemed under powered.

What motor does it have? For a hundred bucks you can't go wrong.

lol, tell that to the 5 grand i have in a 1992 toyo pick-up with rebuilt engine, rewelded frame, new cooling system etc......it just popped a couple belts and over heated yesterday.....fun fun
im assuming it has the 3.0 v6, i dont think the T100 had another motor option. I know i can get a rebuilt long block for 1500 bucks, im more worried about the general reliability of the rest of the truck.....dont want to get into transmissions and differentials and electrical etc.....

The newer T-100's had the 3.4 liter V-6. The 3.4 is a good motor, better then the 3.0.

Yeah i wasnt sure if it had the 3.4 or the 3.0
Either way one is a great motor and the other is decent.
The 3.0 is the worst engine toyota built but its still toyota so it runs forever.
I have 275k on my runner and its still going. Still plenty of power.

Turns out it's a 95 with the 3.4....the engine noise is a loose injector assembly, will need to be re tapped or something.

3.4 is a darn good motor. Definately worth the hundred bucks :redspotda .

I dont have a price on the injector, all i know is that the plastic box that is on top of the injector is loose, engine noise comes out of it, and oil leaks out of it. The guy who sold it to me ran it past the corner garage and they said it needed a new injector assembly and probably needed to be re-tapped. Sounded expensive. The engine has 266k on it, so im debating whether to takea chance on fixing it.

Lol, I never said i was looking the gift horse in the mouth, im keeping the truck, as far as the engine goes if i decide not to take a chance on the old one this is the first place i will offer it for a couple bux plus shipping. My only concern on having the work done is the over all mileage on the engine....i could throw 500 bucks at the injector housing and machine shop work only to find out three months later that the head is warped or it wasn't given regular oil changes etc....

Duh im such a tard.....its not the injector housing, its the spark plug thing, a black plastic box with a couple wires leading to it sitting on top of the cylinder head.there is one over each cylinder. Its loose, and leaks oil, sound serious?

Sounds like you need a new coil.

Is that what that black plastic box is?

If it is on top of the spark plug then; yes. They are "coil on plug" design. Not sure how much a new one would cost.

wait, wait. what you guys are talking about does sound like a coil. but you said something about it leaking oil. The ignition coils don't take/use oil. where you talking about something else...?

A lot of ingition coils contain a type of oil in them.

The whole coil box wiggles back and forth, there is loud combustion noise right there and oil leaking from under it. The mechanic who looked at it thought that the spark plug was probably broken, coil box was broken, or the plug needed to be removed, the threads retapped etc...then the plug and coil replaced......
I got this second hand from the guy who brought me the truck, didnt actually hear the mech say it. And no i dont have any reason to think the guy who brought the truck is trying to rip me off, he works for me and is as interestd in a running truck as I am, because he will be borrowing it a lot.

The oil could be coming from the spark plug hole if the plug is broken off and the hole needs retapped. Doesn't sound like too bad of a fix to get a $100 truck going again. The coil may be kind of spendy.

Thats what im hoping. My history with old toyotas is not great, but i figure i got one last try left in me. Early next year i'll get it fixed and then just see what happens next.
THanks for your time!

Hopefully you can get it running. Worst case you can sell it for more then you paid and come out ahead.

sweet, learn something new everyday...
I've never seen the inside of a coil nor have i ever heard of them leaking.
So this oil that is leaking though: Is it engine oil or this other substance oozing out of the coil?

If that coil box is broken than the spark could be arcing against the valve cover (or whatever it is bolted to) and causing that noise. If that were the case though, It would sound more like a loud ticking noise than a loud combustion sound.
For there to be a combustion sound, i wonder if their is a little blow by around the spark plug. I think your mechanic is on to something with checking the spark plug/plug hole. If a little combustion is escaping past the threads there, that could definitely be whats beating the hell out of your coil.

I don't think they contain engine oil. I am not sure what kind of oil is inside a coil. Some of them are called oil filled. I have never heard of one leaking, but anything that contains liquid could leak I'm sure.
