As many of you know i have been building a 1st gen toyota for quite sometime now ( check my sig for details). Well i just bought a 2nd generation toyota 4 runner. I could use the money to further my 1st gen some more but my wife wants me to keep it and take all the stuff off my 1st gen and put it on the runner.

Pros of the 4 runner
- Roomy and comfy seats. im 6'1"ish and my 1st gen is just a tad small.
- Fuel injection. Has a 3.0 in it and seems to be running good.
- All the creature comforts. Heating, ac, power everything.
- MORE CARGO AREA!! (thats a big one for me)
- Has a backseat so i could take my wife and son wheeling with me instead of just one person.

Cons of the 4 runner
- 274xxx milage on the 3.0 and unsure if its been rebuilt. it runs great but id feal safer with a new engine.
- I wont be able to swap my dual trannys, so id have to get dual tcases.
- id have to get a rear driveshaft built

Pros of the 1st gen
- Its just finished and i havent giving it to big of a floggin yet
- I built it from the ground up so i know every weak spot ( if there was one)
- Its kinda sentamanitl to me because i started before my son was born and i was married.
- I can get body damage and not care

Cons of the 1st gen
- Too small for me and i cant fit my wife and son
- only has a 22r
- Pretty much offroad use only. I could street drive it but the suspension is very very soft.

If i decide to do the runner i need to get a turbo tranny and dual 23 spline tcases with 4.7s in the rear case, rear dirveshaft, crossmember, new front hanger, and a bunch of little stuff.

What do you guys think i should do. Wheel the crap out of my 1st gen until the cab is nolonger useable than swap everything to the runner or just sell the 1st gen and fund the runner or how about selling the runner and throwin some d60s under the first gen?

Tough choice man. I love my first generation truck, but the idea of a 4-Runner or Land Cruiser is very appealing. I would just like the ability to haul more people, and cargo inside. Also being able to sleep in the rig would be cool too.

I forgot about sleeping. Thats a good one, especially in the snow.

Especially when it is pouring down rain, or snowing and you don't want to be out there putting up a tent.

The only thing i really dont like about that 4runner is almost 300K on a 3.0L. Other than that is sounds like you already made up your mind.
You + Wife + Son = 4Runner, not small pick up.

Actually i would stay on the look out of a first gen 4Runner that is missing the running gear or something else cheap like that. If you find a 22RE 4Runner than you can keep your dual trans setup (which is bad ass by the way) and just swap it all into the Runner. OR maybe find a 22RE motor to take the place of that 3.0L you got.?
I just went and looked at a 88 4Runner with an auto trans and a missing 22RE. The interior was completely stripped, the body was a little rough, and one of the windows was missing. It was not in very good shape but the guy only wanted $300 for it. Something like this would have been perfect for you.

It sounds like you really need the extra room of a 4runner and i can't blame you. But i hate to see you sell off that first gen truck you already put A LOT of time, sweat, and money into.

Yeah i think i might be keeping both.

Keep the 1st gen for some good old fashin beatin and the 2nd gen runner for the family good old fashin beatings.

I have a blazer sitting infront of my house. My plan is to run the 3.0 into the ground than swap in the

350/700r4/np205 ( I want a auto, or else id put in the sm465 )
Axles - 14bolt rear and 44 front
Steering - Full hydro
Suspension - Chevys rear and probally alcan fronts ( custom for the weight of the 350 )

And yeah i think id be pretty much good to go.

The 350 is carbed so that sucks but it runs great.

Any problems you guys see me running into? Heating, wiring harness, fuel managment, etc. ?

I didn't even buy the rig. It was in worse shape than what i wanted to get myself into. Anyways, yeah, good call keeping your dual tranny pickup...
