Hi,

I bought a 93 p-u that had been sitting around for over two years. The key will not open either door (lock stuck), fuel lid cover (lock stuck) and once the key is turned to lock in the ignition it is very hard to get it out of the locked position to get it started.

How can I get the locks unstuck? I only received one key from the seller and I think it's wore out. Can I get a new key from Toyota some way? If so is there a key number or something like that I can find on the truck?

Thanks

I am sure you can get a key from the dealer. Probably need the vin number and registration to prove you are the owner. As far as getting the locks unstuck I would try some WD-40, tri-flow, PB Blaster whatever brand you like best. Basically some spray lube stuff.

Thanks, I think that's what I need a fresh key for the ignition.

Tri flow, you wouldn't happen to ride mountain bikes? That's what I use on my bike chain.

I used to ride mountain bikes when I was younger. I work in Law Enforcement and the Mtn. Bike Officers use it on their bikes. So we have it laying around at work.

also some graphite grease should free up the tumblers, also, if you remove the lock cylinder on the door, it should have the key code on it.

I forgot to ask, how do they do that? What is the cost?

I am thinking of getting a new key made for mine. My key is pretty worn out after 23 years of use. Keep us posted on what a dealer wants for one, compared to a locksmith.

I called the dealer, they said come in with the VIN # and they could give me the key # and take that to a locksmith to have a key made.

That's what I did. I called around to the locksmiths and one said $30. and there was another guy that does it part time, he said $10. and $2. for extras. So I went with the cheaper guy.

The new key unlocks the doors and gas lid now no problem. The ignition is still a little sticky getting it from the locked positon, but it was allot better and getting better than the first time I used it. The key was tight getting it in, he said it will be that way untill the key gets worn in a little.

Thanks to all and I hope this info is helpful.
