So Monday I made some progress. mostly finishing details with the purchase and his old shop was literaly nextdoor to 4 WheelParts in Sanjose so I was browsing and asked about the 47 LTB's and the guys said I would have to order them from Louisianna and a fright and crate charge on top of the tire cost would apply. so like $2600 in tire alone :thumbdown. so a priced out a set of new 44" TSL's and he said $1600 out the door..... So I had to figure out how i was going to get these huge ass tire I bought home. I only fit 1 in the suburban and my buddy had to come down and pick up the rest.

The new Chevy 60 should be down at the shop Sat and the Dana 60 Rear fell through so I will be using a 14 bolt (they are cheap and indestructable)

will be down there next weekend pulling the old axles and swapping in the new and going over more details.

Iv broke quite a few 30spline rear 60 shafts. 14 bolt or a 70 is the only way to go.

I have researching and think I finalised plans for the powertrain. I have a buddy selling a 74 blazer with a rebuild 350 w/ RV cam TH350 NP203 for $600. I still haven't decided if I want to do propane injection or Tune port injection. So basicaly I am shooting for a 350/TH350(1stgear 2.52:1)/NP203(low range 2:1)/Dana300 (Low Range 2.62:1) so total crawl ratio with the 5.13 gears should be 67.75:1 final crawl with an auto. I have been researching and the TH350 thould be plenty strong for the amount of HP I am puting out. and they are cheap and plentiful.

No progress this weekend As I have been sick and my friend was in the hospital. but I am hoping to make some good progress next weekend.
I still need to get my rims recentered I was debating on centers and rock rings.

Cool design on the rim.

Any reason why you chose the d300 over doing a 203/205 doubler? iv seen a d300 crack before so i dont have too much faith in them.

rockchump

size and wieght. I am still shooting for a flat belly pan so the size helps. I have a budy that runs a Caddy 500/TH400/203/Dana 300 with 39 boggers on a Jeep comando and hasn't had any problems yet. I could and am thinking of up grading the F/R outputs and twinsticks

Very true.

I wasnt trying to dog the d300 too much but if im spending money id just do the np 203/205 for strength.

What overall weight are you shooting for with this build?

Any luck with that guy about your axles? I think those 70s and some 49s would look nice on my buggy.

rockchump
12-10-2006, 10:03 PM
ya I talked to him tonight I will have them by Sat and then the 70's are ready for you to pick up or my buddy can deliver on his way up to Tahoe. let me know.
As far as Wieght I figure around 3500lbs hopefully less
Front dana 60 with Hight steer and ram and locker about 700lbs
Rear 14 bolt the locker and HD Cover and discs. about 550lbs
Chevy 350 is about 500lbs
Tranny is about 150lbs
Tcases combo 250lbs
Rims about 200lbs
tires 350lbs give or take
these are all guesses not actual numbers total so far 2700lbs

it is going to be 27 spline anyways if I were running a TH400 then the 205 would have been the choice I still could go that direction. its all up in the air as of now. when I buy the parts is when I make my decision everyday there is new stuff for sale on pirate 4x4.

Can't say anything that hasn't already been said, but it looks like you're building a hell of a rig. Keep on it.

Trade for a built cj7? or moon buggy? or built cherokee? i have too many toys.

rockchump
12-24-2006, 11:40 PM
naw I am building this one as a keeper. It will be done right the first time even if it takes longer and is more expensive. I am moving into a new place so rent is like $500 a month and I have half of a 2 car to work with and storage for a trailer when I get one so I am happy and progress will commend

Hows you rig comming along looks like fun. you still interested in those axles they are sitting at the shop I got the 60 14 bolt under it now.

fenderbmxer86
12-25-2006, 11:29 AM
I pay 1700 for rent, let alone pgne, propane, garbage. :thumbdown

Yeah i deff want them. Im picking up a cj7 this weekend hopefully but its only rollin on d44s. You wouldnt happen to have steering arms on the axles would you?

Im getting my full hydro kit for 500 plus some d44 highsteer arms, so i think with the money ill make off the axles and highsteer arms i should have enough for the d70s.

Do they have spring pads on them? 8 lug?

rockchump
12-25-2006, 06:34 PM
Front has Spring pad like a dana 60 that is 31 1/4 like a dana 60. the rear has the perches cut off bit you will need to weld new one anyways to the width and pinion angle you need. they are 8 lug.

fenderbmxer86
12-25-2006, 06:36 PM
are there any steering arms? Are they the same as d60s?

rockchump
12-29-2006, 04:43 PM
the are closed knuckle and I don't have arms for it just the factory ones on the knukles.

I'm looking at your suspension setup, and I like what I see, not that I'm a critic. I do have a question though. The way the rear is set up, with shackles front and rear, aren't you going to have big problems with wheel hop, and tracking, and who knows what else.

Forgive me for asking what could be a foolish question, but I don't understand how it works.

But dam, it does flex, don't it.

Lizard Lips
12-31-2006, 10:27 AM
I believe he'll link the back. there's no way a double shackle setup like that will work without something locating the axle. Although I just woke up and have no clue whats going on

1tontoy
12-31-2006, 09:05 PM
That is what I was thinking. There would have to be something to locate it, but that in itself would cancel the advantage of having the setup in the first place. The physics just don't work.

rockchump
01-01-2007, 04:31 PM
I was planning on a Tri 4 link and will replace springs with Coilovers when money allows. the suspension static works killer but like you said wheel hop and funny characteristics under load would happen. with a 4 link I can get more flex out of those springs then air shocks and coil overs. now 1/4 elliptic has much more droop but is super sketch on steep climbs.

I work things out as they come along.

fenderbmxer86
01-21-2007, 09:36 PM
Hey do you stil have those 70s? If so i might be able to come grab them this week.

01-21-2007, 10:12 PM

02-24-2007, 11:59 AM
Well I have made no progress. except I have just been researching and planning and buyin parts.

After researching a bunch and pricing stuff out the efi V8 conversion with a free Sm465 and Stak 3spd tcase was going to be around $5000+ done right. so I figured I would call my buddy who was selling a complete 87 Turbo truck with a Marlin built R151F with forgien gears and swap that into Ol' Blue. I bought the truck and I am in the process of shipping it from denver to Norcal.

I bought the truck. It has a fresh head gasket and timing chain, maybe 1000 miles on new Marlin tranny, tube bed with storage boxes built in and a partial exo (i need to finish but it comes with the tubing) and Crappy IFS.

And $500 to ship it frome Denver Co to NorCal. Not a bad deal I will more than likely do a quick SAS on wither toy axles or full width 1/2or 3/4 ton axles with some 36's finish the exo and sell it.

What I will be using

Engine 22RTE
Tanny R151F Marlin built with 5.15 first gear
T-Case 23 spline Turbo Tcase( need to do duals with 4.7 gears in the back Case)
Engine Wiring harness and Computer
Radiator and misc stuff I need to do the conversion.

With this I won't have to make or buy
V8 EFI engine, Wiring harness, Computer
Motor Mounts
Custom Radiator
Stak 3spd Tcase
Tranny Free
Hydro Bell housing
custom exhaust
clearance the fire wall
put the radiator in the bed.
and a bunch of stuff I am forgeting.

I am going to set a little aside in a seperate account each month torward my next purchase or build so it may be a year till I can build something else or 5 years it all depends on funds. hell I could win the lotto and build a 600HP buggy :redspotda
