i have a 87 4runner, with the 22re, and i want to swap a turbo 22re in to it, because for now it is my daily driver and i would like more power.
can i just buy the engine, wiring harness and ecm and throw it in? or would there be more to it?
thanks

It is an easy swap since you already have a 22re. All you really need is the ECM, wiring harnass, engine with all the exhaust stuff. I once converted a 22R to a 22RTE and that was a pain. 22RE to 22RTE is straight forward and mostly "plug and play".

The other alternative is to lower your compression (22rte pistons), do some aftermarket type of fuel management, and use a t3 turbo.. With cast pistons, you're limited to about 200hp, but that's a *big* increase.
Rick at Fullboogie.net has a "stock" 22RE (1994), megasquirt, and a nice ball bearing turbo.. He's doing 170 rwhp on pump gas, but he's *very* good at tuning.
