1997 Tacoma, 283,000 miles (No complaints here!!!)
When 4wd is engaged, I seem to get a lot more "wheel hop" or "scuffing" than I've ever experienced before. When backing my boat up, even on the grass, where I should get slippage instead of hopping, she bucks pretty good! Forward or backward seems the same. I also am getting a "burned" smell- maybe the clutch????
I had it in the shop a while back, and they said the scuffing was normal; I've been driving 4wd's long enough to suspect that it may not be!
Any ideas- what would look at first?
By the way, everything is original- haven't even put a clutch in it in 283K!
Maybe it's just time for some rebuilding???
