View Full Version : Locker?
I am looking at lockers and am on a tight budget. I've been looking at the lock right and the aussie locker. I have heard some bad things about lock, right, but not much on the aussie. They will be an 85 pickup with 35 15.50. Just looking for some opinions on this. I have also looked at the quick lock from qenuine gears, but they claim to only work with 32's and smaller. Any imput would be great. Thank you

If you're on a tight budget, a spool is much cheaper, or welding it up is free (or close to it).
I am already welded in the rear. This is for the front, with stock birfs that I plan on welding up for strength. I am trying to go for something that will take it easy of the birfs.
If you're tight on money.....I think the Aussie is best for you.....I have mixed feelings about a lunchbox locker in the rear...especially with a manual tranny but if I was doing it, I would do Aussie as they are most likely to last the longest and least "clunky" of the lunchbox versions.
Do not even consider the Quik-lok.....those things are cheaply made. I had the chance to re-build one and I was not impressed. ZUK
Thank you. The locker is actually going in the front.

That is perfect.

I had a lock-rite in the rear before, definately took some getting used to. It would clunk, and make some really nasty snapping noises.
I am considering an aussie locker for the rear now. I am only running 31's so tire size is not really a concern. I thought about a spool but right now it is my daily driver.
Would an aussie be my best bet for value/driveablity?

Put in an electric locker!!! $400 used third member. The BEST driveability (open diff on road, spool off) and compared to the arb costing somewhere near the 1k mark, it's a good value. you just have to do some fairly easy modifications...
Just had to voice my opinion!

I bet the Aussie is better behaved than the other lunchbox versions.....but I kinda like the idea of an Electric in the rear like TRunner said.
My 2001 TRD Taco has one and I love it. :)

I like the idea of the electic locker a lot! If I can find one for $400 I might just have to do that. I love the idea of being open on the street for normal driving, the totally locked when needed.

I found mine off ebay for $450 (after shipping), I later bought a whole tacoma axle w/ locker for $500!! my buddy found one at a local junkyard for $400 (I think he found a couple over the few months he was debating it. I'll have to ask him. that was in SLC UT) you can also watch wild yoats classified or rockymountainextreme.com classifieds. though sometimes people want more because hey, they're wheelers too! they know how bad we want that kind of stuff  you might have to be a little patient but one will show up...

I run a Lock-Rite in the back and an e-locker up front. My truck sits on 35s w/5.29s. The Lock-Rite is okay on the street (most of the time) but, can be quite cantankerous during slow, tight, parking lot maneuvers. Lately though, its been kinda bothersome, I think it's time to replace the springs (I've had the unit for about 4 yrs now). I wish I had the money to replace it with a Detroit or another e-locker :bluecryin ---------Hans

When I had the lock rite in my old truck my wife was driving it one day and turned a sharp corner into a parking spot. There was a dude in a lifted Toyota next spot over. He kind of looked at her funny because he heard the locker. She just looked at him and said yeah it has a locker. He was kind of like holy crap a chick that even knows what a locker is :redspotda .

Yes she has a sister. Her sister is married, has a kid, and while she is very nice, she is a rather large woman.
RYAN, I just posted somthing on this on YOTACOOLs thread. Almost the same question.
