I've got a 90 p/u with the 5-speed and 3rd and 5th gear make grinding noises sometimes. Its kind of a low hum in 3rd, but is a lot louder and more angry- sounding in 5th. They don't make the noises all the time though. Any ideas?

when i had my 90 it did that too for about a year and a half then the tranny seized up @ 65 mph and sent me for one hell of a ride needless to say i dont have it any more because of that but i did get another 90 with the same problem put a tranny in it and worked great till i blew the ifs front end up
but the first thing i would check is the oil level and how clean it is first.

The fluid level was ok, and the oil didn't seem to be too bad. What is causing the problem? Can I get the jump on it now before I need a new tranny? I love my litle pickup and hate it when something acts up. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

part of my problem was the rear bearings gone bad but its hard to know unless you take it in or know someone else that can tear it apart and tell you whats wrong with it exactly

The guys at work convinced me to rebuild the tranny myself. Thanks for all the help.
