I'm looking into installing some door speakers in my 93 pick up I have been working on.

My queastion is....... I have peeled back the door panel a little bit and there looks to be a hole (under the plastic) in the metal for a possible speaker placement. I'm not sure if the hole is for a speaker, if it is does anyone know or have installed speakers in the door know what size that hole might be?

thanks

ive had 6-1\2 inch speakers in the doors of all my yotas iv ehad before all you need is a small spacer so you can roll your window down all the way and if you dont like the spacer do what i did and build one out of particle board or mdf to fit the bottom 8-10 inches of your door and cover it with carpet to match your interior  it may seem like a lot of work but it looks so much better than a spacer and if done right will look factory just my thoght though

Thanks for your reply.

Will the 6 1/2" speakers fit in those holes that I seen with out cutting the metal?

Without really looking, but from my experiance with other installations, most of the precut door holes are kind of recessed in from the actual door panel, so there is some space between the panel and actual metal speaker hole. I'm thinking if I do need a spacer, it can be placed between the door panel and the metal. Then the speaker can be surface mounted right to the door panel, screwed fast to the wood spacer already fastened to the metal.

This should provide at least 3/4" - 1" depending on if it is actually recessed.

Any thoughts on this or can you comfirm that the speaker hole is recessed?

Thanks again.

im not sure if it is recessed or not and if i remember right you have to cut a little metal away from the door but not much hopefully this helps a little cause its been awhile since ive done it

Well I started my 6 1/2" door speaker installation. There is a hole down low by the hinge side, it's not a speaker hole. A 6 1/2" speaker will fit with some cutting of the metal, not much, just a 1/2" or so in a few spots. The speaker magnet will slide in right next to the window guide rail. I will only be able to use 3 screws to fasten the speaker, one screw location there is no metal, it still can be fastened to the door panel using the metal clip things.

i custom installed 6.5" pioneer 3 ways in the doors of my '94 4x4. i've also got a kenwood amp, along with two 8" kenwood woofers with high range tweeters squeezed behind the seat. (not an extended cab)

all powered by one of pioneer's top of the line headunits. it sounds amazing. i used to just have the rear speakers in, and the stock fronts disconnected because i blew them. when i installed the 6.5's in the doors, it made a world of difference in sound quality. it's excellent.

also, i didn't need any spacers or anything. my windows roll down just fine, too.

I'm done, I will post pictures later, the 6 1/2 Kenwood door speakers (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-6Z9Xv4zn62J/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=KENWOOD+KFC%2D1690IE&i=113KFC1690) are disapointing, I don't think the sound is all that great. I'm pushing 75 wts a channel to them, not sure what the problem is.

Here are a few pictures of the door speaker install, along with some other stuff that was done to the truck to get it on the road.
