Maybe i missed something but whats the "test pipe" for? I realize its a section of exhaust. But what are you "testing"?

A "test pipe" is a term that was used as a way to "test" if the catalletic converter was plugged. They used to sell them in magazines but now are illegal.

Also wrecking yards are not supposed to sell used catylitic converters so you go in and ask for a "test pipe".
