I have a couple questions. 1. Have you put it all back together and started it? 2. Has the cyl head been milled? Sometimes if the head is milled too far the timing chain will always be loose even under pressure because the whole head is shorter.

well my uncle had it just sittin' in his garage. he said he didnt want to use it because it came from a car and thought the heads to be different. but it has been rebuilt. they wouldnt be different car to truck, they are all 22r's arent they?no i havnt run it yet because of the timing chain tensoin concern but i got a dual timing chain kit for it . the kit came with giudes two sprockets and a tensioner and the chain . i had to get a a different oil pump drive and a new cover cuz it wasnt deep enough. any ideas

I don't suppose you could post a pic of the slack could you?

You didn't make the mistake of using the wrong bolt in the top of the oil pump did you?

Look down the well and see if a long bolt is sticking in there holding the tensioner back.

Also, make sure you didn't over-tighten the tensioner bolts. Any more than 12lbs and the bolts will squeeze the housing and bind it up...

How many links are there in the chain?

I think if it is a standard link length, there should be 96 if I'm not mistaken. Maybe you could count them and see how many you have. The dual row kits may very well be different.

I hate to say it, but if there is a lot of slack in the chain I think something is wrong. My chain was pretty tight when I put everything back together.

I still do have a single in it... I used an engnbldr single row chain kit with the steel backed driver's side rail.

The double row kit would be nice insurance, but I really wanted the steel backed rail this time. That's the entire reason I did it on an engine that failed with only 12k on it. I can't believe they used plastic rails...
