I'm getting my stuff together for a crawler and I need an opinion on strength when it comes to upgrading the stock Birfields.
Is there a bullet proof inner axle set up for under $600.00?
I was googling around and saw these three; Longfields, Marfields and the Birfield Eliminator Kits (made by different people). All three costs around $600.00.
So, which is best for the money?
birf eliminator kit was good idea until longfield came out with 4340 30 spline chromos for 550.
strength of a d60 for half the cost.
my friend has them and hasnt had an issue plus lifetime warranty.

Are Pro Fields worth looking at?
I hear there is a way to modify stock birfs by welding them in certain spots or something. Anyone else heard of this?

What's the deal on the "splines" Will either one fit in a stock straight axle?

I have bought a couple things from Poly Performance and I have to say that I don't like them that much. I bought some Beard race seats from them and they didn't show up for a long time. I had to call them 4 times in the process and they always said that they would call me back and never did. Then I got the seats and one was ripped. I also bought the 30 spline 4340 Tacoma axles for $420, the price was right but the customer service was not

Hey, let sleeping dogs lye. I admit, I didn't know shit then, but I'm getting wise to this Toyota thing. I bought a whole rear set up from a F-150 today for $80.00 Springs, U-bolts and plates.
I was going to get the bender, but I can get a bent, ready to weld cage for less than I can buy raw steel. I figure why throw out more money and time when I could use the money on dual cases or something. The time I can spend wheeling! :redspotda
why buy a bender. cuz u still need bumpers, shock hoops, and then when u roll urs and build another one youlll need the same stuff bent. or an exo cage.

That's what friends are for. I have several friends with manual benders and friend that owns a mufflershop with a hydro bender. He told me anytime I needed something done, just show up after 5:00pm with a case of beer and materials.
Nobody said anything until I said I was getting a bender, then everyone tells me "We'll bend it, we'll weld it". One of my friends has a new Miller 251 welder and a bender, another teaches welding at the college and owns Hurricane Welding.
So all I have to do is ask, and pitch a little something in for the sweat and power.

if you need something more than longfields its dana 60. buddy had the eliminator and he had to get the longs. do it right the first time. there is not a joint that compares in anything that I have ever read. I have the longs and I know the eliminator didn't last. no other first hand experience though.

I was reading about the Super Longfields and it was stated that the Longfields are "as strong, if not stroger, than Dana 60's". I think I read that at 4X4wire or Pirate4X4 or someplace. I've been doing so much reading lately, I don't know where I've been.

Its all good
IMO a well designed exo cage is just as strong as as internal cage for the type of roll over action it will see.

The longfield test show that they break with about the same force as a 60, but they twist up more before they break. meaning the 60's are rigid, and the longs are more "flexible" under torsion, which is a good thing when you're all locked up and on rock. Something has to give a little!
Get the longs they're also a lot less hassle.
