I just bought an '85 4Runner. It is lifted with 33" tires, but it is an automatic and is GUTTLESS, even in low range. I am going for the gear reduction, but what are my options? I have heard that they now make dual T-Case applications for automatics, anyone have any info? I have quite a few other Toyotas around and was wondering if it would be worth swapping the automatic tranny for a 5 speed or if I should stick with what I have and build it? I have an '82 short bed, and an '86 and '87 runner that I can yank the 5 speed out of. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!

inchworm does it now for the dual tcase setup for autos. but the fact is u have no power in ur motor. so axle gears will help as well as a newer motor.

What's your take on the tranny swap? I know not every Toy I see on 33's is running another/bigger engine, and some do pretty well on the get-up. So, swap auto for 5 speed?
Thanks

I say, keep the auto, regear to 5.29s and maybe one of these: http://gearslug.com/index.php ,will make for some elegant rock crawling--------Hans

Oatmeal,
Thanks for the info! Do you know of anyone that has the Gear Slug? I think that's the way I'll go, but I am kinda hesitant about such a new product. They say that they haven't had any problems, so I guess there really aren't too many of the NEW PRODUCT BUGS left to be worked out.
Thanks
