The reason I ask is though $1400 might be a great value for the parts involved, I'm hoping to pay less than that. I found an axle from an 85 for $300 or one from a 79 for $200, AND i JUST DON'T WANT TO BREAK MY BANK TRYING TO sas MY 88 X-CAB. so the question is, how many of you guys piece your kits together versus buy the all-pro/marlin/etc kits?

depends on if you want quaility.....

first find the gear ratio in the rear of your truck..probably 410,,then buy the front end with matching gears. for 1400 your probably getting the works,,,springs high steer and all...high steer is nice but can come later. what I suggest:

front end...........200 to 300
trail gear sas bracket and shackle kit 175
rears up front(30 to 40 dollars per pack) or pro comp summit racing springs(50 per side new)
brake lines ( 40 bucks maybe)
square tubing for drive shaft 50 roughly

procomp summit springs are not the best but I've been running them for along while...and they are cheep. rears up front flex like mad but I've seen them bend also.

I dont know where your located but for the most part you can find a stock toyota axle for cheaper than 200.

My truck is an 81 but i might as well SASd it.

YOU HAVE TO DO HIGHSTEER BECAUSE YOU ALREADY HAVE THE IFS BOX THERE.

Highsteer was 360 shipped to my door.
3" wheel spacers - 80? from marlin
rears up front springs- free because i had 4 packs of rear springs.
Shocks- eh who needs them for now.
Brakelines- 60
front hanger-free because i had the metal but about 2-3 hours to make.

The kits are alot faster but if you have fabbing skills and some time go ahead and make your own.

If you do rear springs up front. make sure you remember that it pushes your axle forward 2" Which is quite nice for 35 or larger tires.

Mainly to get your rig rolling you need.
Highsteer (luckly your ifs box is already mounted)
Front hanger
Front springs.

What you can do without for now, or until you hit the trail is
1.5" wheel spacers to match the width of your rear axle.
Brakelines
and the rest of the stuff you will find the kits.

I did mine myself and it ran me close to a grand. It would have been a lot cheaper but i went with 14 inch remote resevior pro comp shocks, so if you go with normal shocks you can do it for an easy 700. Thats as long as you have some fabbing and welding skills.

Thanks guys, that helps alot. Fenderbmxer86, where did you order your highsteer from? And I'm in IOwa for now on an intership so Toy stuff is pretty rare here hence the $300 price tag for a front axle.

I build everything on my truck. I just don't see any reason why I should spend my hard earned money on things that I can make (other than the hy steer and brakelines). I also have 3 kids, so every penny that I throw at my truck, I make count. If I were to add it all together, I probabally have 6-8 hundred into my whole suspension. I don't think I even have 2000 into my whole truck. And it has a 4.3/NP435/205 combo. Actually, the most expensive thing I have on mine is the Iroks...
