View Full Version : axle question
i bought this solid front axle couple monthes ago and i forgot what size it was or what size engine it came out of is there any way to tell from just looking at it
toyota has only ever made one toyota front axle. if its a straight axle its a straight axle. they didnt have v6 back when straight axles were around.
so its out of a 4cylinder.
unless its a land cruiser axle. trucks front is a truck front and a land cruiser front is a land cruiser front.

actually I thought landcruiser's had bigger birfeildsFJ-80 are huge compared to the truck ones however, alot of guys run the truck birfields in their early drum brake FJ-40s (converting to p/u discs) and say they're stronger. Also, truck front housings underwent some changes between their introduction in '79 and the last (U.S. versions, anyway) ones in '85. The early ones were kind of weak and more prone to bending compared to the more heavily gusseted '84 and '85s-------Hans
ya landcruiser axles is a lc axle.
truck is a truck axle minus the truss.

If its got leaf spring perches it's a truck or fj40 front axle, if it's got spring cups it is a newer landcrusier axle. If the truss on the long side goes almost all the way to the bell it's an 84 or 85 housing from a truck.
