has anybody used foam to fill the frame to prevent water and rust?
as everybody knows the old toyotas are notorrious for rusting, i have allready boxed the frame and sprayed it with undercoating but now i was wondering if anybody has filled the inside of the frame with foam to prevent rust?

opinions, pro's, con's?

I have never heard of doing that. I have heard of boat trailers filled with linseed oil to prevent rust. Not sure what that would do to the weight, or if it would even be a good idea on a truck frame.

Heard of it. Haven't tried it. Sounds like it should work.

We used to do that to our lake jumping bikes. Kept most water out but still some how rusted a bit.

Seems to me that water will still get in there

The other day i seen a ranger that had foam filling up all the crevases of the body so that mud wouldnt get stuck all up in there.

Good thing here in cali we dont worry about rust.

I wouldnt wast the time. If water gets in you now have created a different problem also what about welding to the frame.

Wouldn't do it!! If water gets in, (which it will) Then you will have a worse rust problem than before, as the water is now trapped! Also the foam is porous and will hold humidity ALL OF THE TIME, speeding the oxidation process (RUSTING)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tried this on my desert car body, and the dang thing rusted from inside out! The rust showed up on outer skin of body 3 months after I painted it! Now I have a brand new bitchin' paint job with rust holes in it! Totally sucks to be me!

Have you ever seen how that spray foam ignites? Scary stuff. If you use it stay FAR AWAY from exhaust. As a firefighter I have seen 3 fires in the last year and a half because of that crap.

:thumbdown once water gets past ANY of that foam....

say goodbye to a unrusted frame..

and DAMN...thanks to that firefighter..... Never knew that...
